I agree that VQ's like thicker oil. If it were me, I'd have taken off the filter. drained it, pt it back on and added a bottle of STP to fill the oil back up. That would have put the oil back in the 30-weight range for the duration of the OCI...

Oh, but wait, this is BITOG - much, MUCH better to completely waste $30-$40 worth of oil than to try and save it!!!

Not a bad idea. But wait what about all those who think oil is perfectly formulated using only the very best raw materials and it can't possibly be made any better, or tweaked a little. Add something to oil, how could you? That could throw out the delicate yin/yang of the oil. LOL

All kidding aside that is certainly an option!

You're right, demar, it isn't a 'perfect' solution...but for a 3750-OCI, it couldn't hurt, and saves the oil fro being tossed with 50 miles on it!

Addy I think your solution is a fine solution. I thought leaving it as is was fine, or if the OP was concerned to drain it into a clean container and use it for something else. At least it wouldn't be a total waste of good oil. Your solution is a lot easier and will get the oil close to the grade the engine calls for. Win win IMO.
