To date, I’ve been using the Fram Synthetic Endurance FE9688 with WRX FA24F engine for its high efficiency and synthetic media. With the First Brands Greenville OH plant closure, I’m concerned this is being discontinued/very rare.

My plan on other Subaru’s is to use the PurolatorOne PL14615 because of its high efficiency and high bypass, but the Purolator parts search doesn’t suggest any filters for the WRX. Any known reason why?

personally wouldn’t run anything other than a premium guard filter at the moment. Premium guard, carquest extended protection/premium, microgard select and some STP XL filters.

by-pass is 23.

I do not know why Purolator does not show an oil filter for the WRX. I saw the same as you. But it does show for a 2025 Crosstrek with the 2.5 I would conclude that this filter is not for the Turbo model WRX. ?

why not the OEM Tokyo Roki filter? But I hear you, I am also interested in a suitable filter that meets Subi spec.
you can get full service kits at SubiMods, or subarupartsonline. very reasonably priced too!

OEM (black) Tokyo Roki will probably be my choice if there is no good explanation for the PuolatorOne. I don’t really understand why in general the WRX needs shorter oil filters than other Subaru but maybe this plays into why Purolator doesn’t recommend it??

I don’t like how the WIX WL10078 doesn’t have an official micron rating (confirmed by tech support).

I wonder what Purolator tech would tell you as a suitable part number.

I looked on the purolator site and saw the PL14615 was indeed a replacement choice for our other 2025 crosstrek 2.5L
No listing for the WRX, the WRX filter is shorter for the oil cooler sandwiched between the filter and the cover case.
I did see that pertinent to Subaru that the by-pass spec for the 14615 filter is 20-30. That disturbs me in a way bc it does not commit to the exact specs of OEM. without me risking getting pounced on here by the brain trust, it basically means it will work. IMHO I like specifics. Since both our Subi`s have a maint contract, I will stick with the OEM and change at severe service interval if not a 6 month period. Both Subies still have very low mileage more than a year later. I have no issue with the OEM WRX filter made in Japan, But now see the OEM filter for the crosstrek (A21) has been made in indonesia by Roki specs... Ill be way out of warranty in another -2 years.

FYI: Idemitsu makes Subaru`s oil. I have no idea what the dealer puts in as I am charged or contract for Subaru 0W-20. Thats what it shows on my paperwork. But could also be in bulk of another brand... I have seen this before.

when I do Oil service on the WRX so far, Motul is my choice. either way they are both good oils.

If they show a range, like "20-30 PSI" then it could mean it cracks open at 20 PSI and is fully open at 30 PSI. IMO, a filter bypass spec should just show at what PSI the valve starts to crack open.

Thank you for that!. Good to see you ZeeOSix, I enjoy many of your threads throughout the vast net. I have not been here in a long while, working on my boats and such, you understand. Since the SC`d Titan days, I not had a qualified build like that since. But a few lifted rigs and a few Turbo Subi`s kept the fun per se. Hope you are well!

Are PurolatorOne filters considered by this community still at risk for media warping and tearing?

Toyota sells a filter also for the brz that matches . Whip City did a comparison, media looks good in the Toyota, as good as the Puro tech. I would go with the Wix and not worry though, cut one open to verify no glue etc issues, use one. Puro One the black glue has been an issue, they need to change that.
