I remember this thread by AE, it was really well done. I remember it because I frequently read here and elsewhere on the net doubts that the flat spring bypass ever opened at the spec'd psi because it couldn't be easily pushed down with a finger. As far as I'm concerned his test dispelled that notion.

As for topic filter, jobber tier looks good and price right. Another 14612 with no adbv indentions/cuts noted or seen. I'd say 3- ~5k mi. ocis, these fine. Thanks for c&p.

There is definitely an art to oil filter pictures, I've got an old battery cover that has an open side I cover with a drape and either take outside or use 2 "daylight" bulbs in desk lamps. I've toyed with making a light box, but my current kludge seems to work OK. Actually a mildly overcast day seems to work best. Your pictures are really good, it was just the shadows in that one area.

That is true, I didn't realize this was a short one (6606 size right) it is interesting vs the long one 14610 (7317 size) that is one of the frequent offenders.

I also agree, for a short term/mile run nothing to complain about here, it looks at least as good as other $2 filters.

Of course I'm also glad there were no injuries (cut filters and thorn bushes can both be quite sharp) and for future reference "it is in the trash covered in briars" is good for a pass from me.

Yep, I don't believe these are supposed to be sold at retail right, they are shop oil change filters.


Correct, these filters are short small filters and [censored], I was impressed by how well spaced the pleats were, how clean the glue between the metal end caps were and overall construction, I read so many bad things about Purolator in BITOG, sorry but not with this filter for sure.

I bought a case of these filters from a guy on ebay, they were shipped from the "Fleet Management" department of some company (forgot the name)
They are not sold in stores BUT ...
I suspected all along these are the same filters with a different label because I believe (and sure I am right) the filter is simply repackaged and sold to the consumer at a higher price.
More or less having a different label is common as it prevents retailers from being undersold.
