Off a friends Cadillac small SUV with 2.0 turbo 4cylinder engine. If I have to guess I’d say 5~k on CarQuest synthetic 0w20 and this. Did last oil change or taught him how to. More CarQuest synthetic 0w20 and WIX 10351 on. Typical Purolator shoddy construction: endcap falls right off soon as I opened can

Yeah, I’m just not a fan of Purolator stuff nowadays. Their “ProTec by Wix” is a joke of filter. What’s odd is some ProTec have silicone adbv, the 51334 doesn’t and is Made in China

Give it a few months and they will start using those cheap home air filters style media which you can literally sneeze through.

Other than the end caps falling off it appears like a decent filter if cost is low. I would not buy it though if they just fall apart like you mentioned. Obviously, this filter is at a lower price point than a One or Boss. Great Pics as always!

Yeah, you can get these cheap/reasonably priced off flea bay, er I mean “EBAY”

At least they're cheap! The RA sub-$2 Champ would be a better choice, these Tech filters are super bargain basement.

In manufacturing it is hard to get the sealant to adhere to to steel endcaps Many times I have seen similar parts come in where I worked in my last job with drawing oil or a anti-rust coating coating that didn't get cleaned off. Then they went into inventory misssed by the Incoming QC sampling.

Not a big problem if the leaf spring holds the assy together as it should.

Help me understand why filter Wix and Purolator make "jobber" filters? Is it an attempt to make the cheapest, lowest quality oil filter?

Purolator's Classic and PureOnes are good quality filters and they compete well in their price category. It seems like incredible redundancy.

To have a broader product line, make more product and make more profits. Basically what every company strives to do. They make jobber filters at a reduced cost, so fast lube places buy and use those type of filters ... and they also make more profit as result. The $$$ profits basically drives everything, that's the main goal of a business ... to make as much $$$ as possible. Some shoot themselves in the foot trying to do so, and others don't.

I went to the Purolator site and they have a separate area called "Professional Filters". They partner with the businesses to stock and promote Purolator products which I think is great! What is surprising to me is the "Professional" oil filter is rated at 96.5%, the same as the Classic but uses a nitrile instead of a silicone anti-drain back valve. With the word professional one would assume as good or better than what is sold at retail. A small detail but very interesting none the less.
