Off of the girlfriends daughters 2018 Ford Fusion with I think 2.0 engine. Had this filter and unknown oil in. Oil life was at 48%

Put Some Fram Synthetic 5w30 in and a Purolator P1 on. 59,xxx on vehicle.

NOTE: soon as I took baseplate off, the top endcap came off with it. Mann/Hummel quality: FAILURE🤬🤬🤬

It's disappointing because I've always viewed Wix as the "reliable" brand. They don't have the best filtration efficiency, maybe not the best flow, but they've consistently been durable over the years. While an end cap falling off isn't harmful, it is a sign of a slacking quality.

The end-cap falling off... perhaps because the canister was removed and this allowed the "cap" to go beyond what would have been the canister.

Glue and media held-up fine. I've always been a WIX buyer and hate to see their quality going down... But.... This end-cap thing sounds like it could just be dismantling the

filter.

I doubt it, there’s no glue on the end cap. I’ve disassembled plenty of filters (but not as many as ‘53Stude!) including many where I crushed the can while removing and had to pry the element out. None have ever separated in this way.

Seen plenty of end caps here pop off on Purolator built filters. It's not from opening the filter. The glue (potting material) sometimes doesn't stick well to the metal. But it sticks well to the media.

My thoughts also. Perhaps different formulations of glue or even oil residue from manufacturing doesn't allowing 100% adhesion to the metal. Nevertheless...
It appears WIX has gone through some changes in ownership and with manufacturing. I'm a bit disappointed as WIX was always a quality product.

As long as Wix/Mann uses the coil spring, it should be capable of holding the whole works together in operation, better than Fram's sometimes weak leaf design. I never worried about glue not sticking to the metal caps, just whether the pleats tear or not.

Seen a fair amount of endcap poppers this subforum (iow, nothing new). With that I accept what Jim Allen said here years ago about the phenomenon. Paraphrasing, 'as long as the potting intact on media and the compression spring (flat or coil) holding the element firmly, ie. as designed, then there is no oil bypass.'

Looking at topic filter potting, back of the endcap (clean/smooth), no loose element noted, so no oil bypass. Imo topic filter functioned properly in use. Rest of the filter looks good. Also thinking in this case, the replacement P1 equivalent used, will look much like topic Wix.

Maybe it's just me and my dislike for louvers but some of those louvers don't look as open as they should be.
If you consider that camera angle can play a fairly significant factor in how open some louvers may 'appear', I'm going with your prejudice/bias points here. Louvers look fine to my eye.

I'd bet if the media removed and light shined down the center tube, the latter conclusion would have been confirmed. And, always more louvers per area than holes.

Reading louvers are like reading chicken bones ... gotta know what to look for. :D
