I've been using the purolator oil filter for a while now and I'm wondering if its efficiency is really as good as they boast. I know they also make bosch, which is also a good filter. The purolator as I'm sure everybody knows is 97.5% and pureone is 99.9%. Does anybody know the multipass efficiency? I'm wondering why purolator is so cheap compared to all the other brands at the local auto store. Thanks.

I don't think they're any cheaper than any other brand. WIX's cheapest or SuperTech/STP/Champ are also in the 3~4$ range, as are Fram's OCOD. The PureOne's are a steal, however, and that I can't explain... but the price at Amazon keeps creeping up.
I do agree that the WIX are better made ( I can't cut them with can opener, better bypass spring setup) but with less media area my shelves tend to have mostly Purolators.

Call them and ask 1-800-526-4250,but your hard press to find a filter of better quality for the money.
For ordinary off the shelf filters I would have to agree with Daman. If you want to spend more I honestly can't say you can beat an Amsoil EAO filter.
They are really well built inside and you will most likely mangle your hands trying to get one open. Not that I would know about that...

L30001 - 1997 ford explorer SOHC v6
L10111 - 2004 gmc safari pushrod v6
PL34631- 1999 marine 415hp v8 volvo penta
On the volvo, i've been using amsoil eao but id rather just go with a pureone with Mobil 1 15w-50 for $21-5gal at walmart. cant beat that.

If you have room for it, you might be able to use the 24011 on that GMC, it has the same thread/bypass settings, but it's a bit larger for increased oil capacity.

I think there is a lot of room. I was always wondering the filter on these is so small. I change it every 3k miles anyway though.

If you buy 4 P1's at AAP and use one of the $10 off $25 coupons on the promo board, they can be had for ~$4.10 each till months end. Not bad. Less expensive then Amazon, which recently has gone from ~$9.49 for 2 to $11.38 for the popular 14610.

purolators are not so cheap... If they were more money people would but a lot less of them
thanks sayjac but i can't get them to print on my printer. i get a blank sheet that comes out with the words tinypic in the left hand bottom corner. can somebody please help me as this would help out alot.

Well they have to price them competitively. If they were as expensive as Mobil 1s or K&N's regular people wouldnt buy them. Most filters are priced about the same with the exception of FRAM and SuperTech. But you know your not getting a lot with those filters.

PureOne's are a steal for most users with intermediate mileage length OCI's. If you're a short time/mileage type, save the extra $3. Just look out for the magic gold fairy dust. Tinkerbell just gets carried away from time to time at her day job. The Disney thing ain't cutting it and she found a way to put that wand to use.
