Purolator Pure One

Just a quick note that the latest UOA on my Infiniti QX4 (Nissan VQ35DE engine) showed a marked improvement in the levels of silicon and phosphorus when I switched from the OEM paper filter to a PureOne--and that switch only happened half way through my OCI. I had Terry look at the results and that was his interpretation. I'm quite surprised by this, but happy that the PureOne seemed to solve my dirt ingress problem. I use the truck mainly to get to the mountains to ski, so the roads are frequently sanded and sometimes salted, leading to very bad air quality. It looks like it takes a PureOne to keep all the bad stuff out of my engine.

(And, yes, I closely examined the OEM paper filter and could find no gaps, cuts, or other defects. The intake tract beyond the filter was clean, so it must have been the very small/fine contaminants that were making it past, I guess.)

I got one of these filters for my truck (PA35192 filter, 2001 2.5L Ranger) about a week ago. There definately is some oil on it (and it does say "oil wetted media" on the box), but it is a very light coat. I don't see it causing problems with the MAF sensor.

The fit is fairly good. The gasket isn't as thick as it is on the STP I had before, but it is thick enough. There is no play in the filter box. I checked the gasket before buying the filter because I have had problems with Purolator before. I bought one of their regular filters without checking the gasket first and the fit was horrible. The gasket didn't seal the air box at all. The Pure One is much better though.

Pep Boys carries these now as a side note
