Purolator PL15436 after an OCI

I just changed the oil in the car in my sig. I took some information and pics to show everyone. I know a few other members here (bigtallV was one I remember) asked to see this filter after its period of service so here it is.
The filter was run for 4,700 miles from the fall of last year till now, the spring. The filter looks great and I can say it held up pretty well. There was some waviness to the pleats in some areas while other areas of the media stayed relatively straight. That being said, every filter I have taken out of this engine comes out looking this way at least a little bit. The good news is there were no rips or anything else to be concerned about. The filter had 52 pleats and the media had a square area of 112.32 inches. Sorry if the pics are a little fuzzy, I had to adjust the brightness of the photos so the media could be seen.
Having used quite a few different filters for the application, I now have 3 favorites. This filter the Purolator PL15436, the AC Delco (Hengst) 457G and the Fram tough guard TG9018. All of them have excellent craftsmanship, good filter media, and perfect fitting O-rings. Enjoy!

thanks for the pics... thats one thing that seems to annoy me about cartridge filters in general. most of them get deformed.

Does it really matter? probably not. but as a BITOGer is still bugs me

Yeah I don't like the waviness either but there are other advantages to the cartridge filter like being conveniently located on the top of the engine and being open to full inspection before purchase.
Something else I should mention before I get beat up for saying I like fram filters. In general, I do not like fram oil filters and I call them the OCOD like most here on BITOG do. I am not going to bother explaining why because if you are reading this, you probably know why we don't like fram spin on filters.
I must say though that Fram does make a nice cartridge oil filter. The pleating is very nice, the glue job is perfect and the o-rings seem to be nice quality and always fit well (in this application anyways). The price is still a little too high for my liking but I thought I would mention them anyways.
Just my opinion but the brands to avoid for this application are Wix, Super tech and STP. None of the O-rings fit well, valve chatter is more pronounced and the overall craftsmanship of these 3 brands is poor (again, I am talking about just THIS application). Hope this helps

not all BITOGERs dislike Fram's OCOD- I use one, as well as P1s and AC and don't think twice about it-I cut all of my used filters apart, and have never seen a ripped pleat like you see with the Purolators

You're comment about the Wix is funny, I have a NAPA Gold in now and when I went to check the oil this weekend I couldn't get a level as it was half way up the dipstick. I have a feeling the lower o-ring is leaking and it drips on the stick.

I will also echo your thoughts on the TG. I had no complaints and would use it again no problem but agree the price is a bit steep but not too bad. Couldn't see any difference in the medias between the TG and the CH but I guess that doesn't mean much. I also used a TG can on the G6 for the last OCI. If it looks ok after I open it up, who knows, might use them more often.

I was looking at P1s on Amazon, apparently they will ship filters up here now! I may yet pick some up with some cans for the G6.

Yes this filter had blue media before it was installed.
The O-rings on the Napa gold filter I used was way too small in diameter. If you go the Napa's website and look at pics of the 7082, you can almost tell just by looking that the o-ring is too small. If you study the pics of Fram, Purolator and K&N, the O-rings look much thicker. The glue job on every 7082 I have seen is very sloppy too.
I really like Wix products but the specs they must have for this application are way off.

I think the Purolator looks more wavy after used than other filters because it is slightly taller than some of the othe brands, maybe to have a tighter seal? This is now my filter of choice for my Ecotec engine. I don't know if it was the filter or the Ams XL oil but, the engine does not have the 1/2 second rattle at cold start any more. The noise, I beleve was the timing chain slopping around untill the oil pumped up the tensioner

Every filter I have removed from my Fusion has wavy pleets. No problem.

The worst filter I used were the Wix filters that cross reference to this one. They even come with an undersized O-ring for the cap. GM specifically says to reuse the O-ring, using the Wix o-ring = leaks. Always had great experiences with the Purolator and AC delco filters.

@kemo. I work for a dealership and it's so irritating seeing aftermarket rubber o-rings in place of the life time GM green O-ring. (especially when the GM filter does not come with a new O-ring) Funny, now I have a Purolator O-ring on my filter cover. guess I'm in a oil changing mood.

The cartridge filters that come out of my sons Olds 3.5L come out with straight pleats. The pleats need to maintain spacing on the inner facing side for the media to be effective. When they warp like this, the pleats collapse. I also have had Purolator can filters (10241) with warped media which I view as a defect. I have found pleats where the media is crushed near the end cap adhesive, compromising the media.
