Cool. They should do something about the paint flakes though. I learned reading here on Bitog many of us are uncomfortable using the P1 filters because of those paint flakes. They should address the situtaion to comfort the customers aware of the issue. JMO

They never had a chance. They need to come up with one using a pizza box.

Just not seeing any texture issues on any of the P1's or the AAP Total Grips with the same design, in my stash. Also no issues with looking in random boxes at AAP or Kmart. I'd sure like to see pics of the latest descriptions here of the texture falling off and sitting in the box, not overspray, which I believe has been corrected. And, I'm certain Purolator would be interested in seeing such a phenomenon too.

Purolator's customer service is amazing, they have continually investigated and addressed customer concerns. I'm sure if there was a valid issue and they were made aware of it, I'm sure they would look into it and resolve it as needed.

I use the gold P1 filters on my vehicle (in fact just got two more yesterday), and I do that without hesitation. Though, maybe it's one of those "ignorance is bliss" things

I had issues early on, one phone call and the issue was quickly resolved. I'm still reading about it here though, so it appears some people are still concerned. The 10 or so P1 filters in my stash are fine, no paint flakes at all. Most were sent to me via Purolator when the issue first came to be after the paint color change. It's a shame they didn't leave them the original color and add the texture to that paint.

its the texture that is the problem!
Who cares about the color??
Its the sandy flakes that worry me ..What damage can be caused by those flakes??? Bearings ???

if you want to use purolator use the classic not the "yellow Flake" filter..
I was at advanced yesterday and a large poster compared the pureone to the bosch
it said pureone good bosch best... I always liked the purolator until i saw the flakes now i dont ever use them

Three consecutive posts to make the same/similar point? Any pics with of current/recent production to show these alledged falling texture particles in the box and filter? Sent any pics and/or email to Purolator concerning these loose particles?

Marketing, and the Bosch DP is twice the price or more for the same efficiency. Comparison(s)(with pics) been discussed here many times, with holding capacity the major difference. But, the BDP is a good filter for double the cost.

I just love the video, and agree with the preference for metal end caps (though I realize that most of the time, the Fram-style will work). So although the video is amusing, it does sort of fail to account for the "papery" filter ELEMENT that is attached directly to the end caps, whatever they're made of...

the one i looked at the other day did have the sand inside that gasket area, it would be very hard to take a pic of since it is individual grains of sand that are covered in the paint making them stick, looks more like over spray then flakes, but it is very fine and hard to take a daming pic of. since i don't use these filters i haven't gone to the length of documenting it or contacting purolator, but i will say if you use these filters inspect them closely since brand loyalty isn't worth running sand through your engine!

True. Yet, Fram uses a metal centertube to support the media, but not the ends. And, they find it important enough to use metal endcaps in the best filter they make(XG). Seems incongruous to me. But yes, the orange can generally will work, just better choices out there, for the same or less money.

And no matter the filter brand/type it's always good practice to check inside the filter box before purchase. Though I've seen no P1 issues in store, it's just common sense.

I hate marketing but that is so silly I just about fell out of my chair....I totally agree that Puro classic is a better constructed filter than Fram for a little less money. Fram can't argue that and they know it.

I find this an interesting video from Purolator. Purolator tried filters with cardboard end caps a few years back and then switched back to metal caps. Who would know more than Purolator which design is superior?

Well, we regurgitate our objections to the cheap construction often enough, they probably figured that it's one more thing that they can throw out there.

Besides all that. When you have a competitor in a totally indefensible position, you HAMMER them relentlessly. (see M1 failure in the XYZ test data).

I really wonder ..the speed of information these days, if the objections to Fram because of us (not BITOG- but all such automotive sites) has caused a reaction from them.

Now we know that they'll never abandon the cardboard endcap, but I think watching them "rent" more shelf space to shrink the competition at places like WM and whatnot is probably the first reflex. The ultimate achievement would be for the low end filter to drop to a price that reflects the quality level.

I figure $1.75 max.

Never going to happen.

I recall seeing these ads WAY back in the day on automotive programing.
