i sent in a request to them asking about how much media coverage there was on the following. does this mean the higher # the better or just the opposite.
I think it means they misunderstood your question. My guess is that they're telling you how many vehicles ("applications") they show each filter fitting.
um...wow..ok...i did put in the subject "media surface area specs." i guess he did really intrepret that wrong. anyway thx guys guess i'll stick with my current 14610.
That's why I use it on everything except Wifey's PT and the Ram. It has the same bypass pressure, thread, and gasket as the filters recommended for most Mopar engines before they went to metric thread filters. The only thing that keeps me from running it on the PT is that it hits the side of the engine. If you don't like P1, use any other FL-1A equivalent and get the same percentage increase in filter area.
For me personally, it makes me feel better running a relatively high efficiency media and still knowing it probably won't spend as much time in bypass (if any) as a smaller filter. Although for my big-blocks with HV oil pumps, I'm seriously considering going down in to a lower efficiency media filter just to be sure I stay out of bypass (maybe RP or ...gasp... Fram ExtendedGuard.)
I think the PL30001 will fit on my Tacoma V6, but I'm running the PL20195 which is plenty big for it IMO. But, IMO no reason to not run a bigger filter if you have the room and the specs are good ... and if the vehicle is out of warranty.
