Purolator L20073 vs L14610

For my '02 Nissan Spec V, QR25DE.

Purolator PP L20073 H. 4.74, O.D. 2.98, relief valve 12-15 psi.
Purolator PP L14610 H. 3.52, O.D. 2.69, relief valve 14-18 psi.

Both are threaded 20 x 1.5

About twice the size.

Extra room with the L14610.

The L20073 comes right to the edge.

O.k, did some driving around, no leaks that I can tell. It took 746 ml or about 3/4 of a quart to top up.

I'd like to see a good reason as to why many manufacturers specify such a tiny filter.
I do know that a compromised engine and/or engine bay area can limit the filter size; otherwise, bigger is better, and no more costlier..
