Looks exactly like a purolator of old. Very good looking. Tight even pleats.

If they continue to look like this for a period of time I'll buy them again.

^Ditto.

I think the reality is oil filters of entry level have a higher chance for tearing and perhaps QC is to blame, but if you REALLY want peace of mind just go with a wire-backed synthetic for more money.

If not, pay less and take that small % risk.

After about amputating my thumb while cutting it open-here is a picture of an older L14476-something has changed, possibly BOTH media & method of crimping the seam-

Looks like the newer one might have more pleats, and therefore less spread near the seam.

Would have to count the pleats on both and compare to know for sure.

i never said this was not a purolator i simply said it does not look like one i have ever seen. I never said anything about counterfeit filters in this post either. I did not say anything about purolator improving their filters although that would be a nice change. I also don't think either is plausible as you asked. Now you asked me how i can say with certainly that it's not a purolator but i never said that either. Read my post again i stated it does not look like a purolator i have ever seen after 12,000 miles (meaning it looked to good). then you asked me do i have inside knowledge of Purolator's current manufacturing process and materials used and asked me to share! It did not end there you then asked: Or are you just saying "stuff", because of your personal dislike of Purolator? And no i have used their products for well over 20+ years at my engine shop until they started having issues. I was just being nice because personally that filter in your pictures that you posted saying it had 12,000 miles on it looked very good and personally it's hard to believe it has 1/2 of the miles you say it has and if it does then maybe just maybe you got one of those counterfeit filters you were talking about.. You are getting way to wired over this post and im not 100% certain why.

What I saw/see after very detailed explanation including start and finish odometer readings documenting the 12000+ miles fci early on in the thread, was a questioning of the OP asking if was 10800 miles less than reported. I consider that if not an insult to the OP then at least a questioning of his integrity. So I have no difficulty understanding the OP's reaction, and based on some other follow up posts, others agreed.

What makes it more odd imo, is if one has unequivocally stated they won't use Purolator filters numerous times, why not just let it go and move on. Combine that with the third degree, again it's easy for me to understand the OP's reaction.

Bottom line, the OP posted a positive Classic anecdote here and majority replies have been respectful and grateful for his efforts.

Another picture for those who doubt/question Walmart's logistics.
Picture taken yesterday from my local Walmart. That is less than 4 weeks since the filter is manufactured and it's on the shelves.

If I'm to follow the table, Manufactured: 12/03/2014

If these filters improved that much then they were listening and i applaud them but i have to see for myself and be very sure before i bring them back to the shop for use on any of our rebuilt engines. Im not totally sure how "the table works" but this is assuring. Do you work for them by any chance?
