PUROLATOR CLASSIC 14615 CUT OPEN

Came home friday, this filter was on my porch in a ziploc bag. I’m guessing either was on a Subaru, Nissan or….? Few friends of mine have Subaru that’s older as in early 2000’s and one co worker has 06 Nissan Sentra. Write on bag said “4K with PP 5w30”. Shame that it tore near seam. UNACCEPTABLE

Wow, that looks more like a media "blow-out" since the pleats are relatively tight and not even bent over.

Gonna see more failed media from filers ran over the winter time. Very cold start-ups and maybe too high of revs before the oil warms up can contribute to tearing weak media.

I would believe it if folks are running molasses thick 10w40 or15w40 or god forbid straight 30&40 but with specified oil; dunno…

If I am reading that date code correctly, that filter was made in March of 2015. Hopefully Purolator has since corrected all their filter tearing issues from that time frame.

Pleat spacing around the seam crimp doesn't look bad to my eye. Not exactly a new filter either, most likely 3/2015, 7 years. (Other choice, 97) All that taken together, makes me wonder how and where it was stored before use. Certainly not a typical tear seen here even for Puro product.

Yeah, dad said back in 70’s and 80’s they made solid, dependable filters. Guess times change for worse for some things

There were top notch until around 2014 when media tearing went wild.

What won't matter ... torn media? In this example, it seems there is some missing media and if so it went into the oiling system.

Clog a piston oil squirter nozzle, you'll find out otherwise! Even a modular Ford V8/V6 often has a restrictor orifice feeding the valvetrain & cams-heads & cams have been destroyed by clogging them.
