Purolator 14459 Dissected

This Purolator came off a 2002 Hyundai Elantra that was in use for 3000 miles. The canister was the easiest out of the bunch to cut through, the ADV was very pliable, and happy to report no tears of any sort throughout the filter. Pleats were very nice with minimal waviness.

You have disapppointed a lot of "I'll never use" types with that tearless filter. No doubt there's some way to explain it negatively, such as new old stock or the like.

Any reason your pulling this filter off at only 3K ? This filter could easily go to 5 or 6K....and I'm sure your oil could as well.

looks ok but it still has wavvvvvy media where other filters dont.

Apparently a great looking filter from Puro is anything without a tear. Poor construction IMO to have that waviness.

Date code 2/1/2012 ... so before they crashed on the first corner. Gremlins were on vacation on 2/1/2012.

The filter doesn't belong to me. I get filters from family and friends and log their make and model and OCI just to satisfy my own curiosity and hopefully those of the fellow BITOGER, afterall, filter cutting can be quite addicting!

LOL. And on cue....you called it. The amateur sleuth's time frame now changes depending on the latest positive Puro anecdote. It's before...it's after....it was a good day.......

With a preponderance of solid/positive Puro anecdotes lately become more obvious to me some don't want to see positive Puro anecdotes such as this one. Seems like anything to attempt to make a positive into a negative.

As the OP noted, some minor waviness but bottom line, filter did it's job. Be interested to know how long a time frame this fci? 3k over a year different than 3k in 3 months. But either way got the job done.

The filter looks good. Dont worry about the wavy media.. Mopar and Motorcraft filters do the exact same thing. In fact, I ran a Mopar filter less than 300 miles and it came out just a wavy as one I ran 5000 miles.

As for the above comments and hopefully nobody takes this personally, but I still wont use a Purolator Classic/ P1 spin on oil filter until I see them tear free for quite some time. Motorcraft or Mopar for me oil wise (my Jeep loves them and the MC filters are a great value), but I do like their P1 air filters.

Tear free on repeated autopsies on filters with date codes well after around Jul-Aug of 2014.
