Pureone Or WIX

I just put a WIX in my car tonight.
The filter in the car (from when I bought it) appears to be an ACDelco. Both filters are made in Korea for my model.
Must be something about this particular specialty drop in filter for this car...

Typically, members who prefer better filtration go with the PureOne. Those who prefer better oil flow (especially for racing) go with the WIX

Because of their overspray problems on some lines, I would avoid the PureONEs for now.

I'd go with Wix or Napa Gold (basically the same).

Thanks for the replies guys!!

Now the million dollor question that everyone has skated around as it seems nobody know the answere.

Is the Bosch and P1 the same filter?

It is funny nothing is great about superttechs but people think they are because they are cheap.

Yes the consensus is the Bosch premium is the same as a PI at the same price without the grippy stuff. I'm thinking of using Bosch myself. I'm in the camp that a wix isn't any better in function than a Purolator classic, Motorcraft or champion labs and don't see the justification for it's higher price and less availability.

Thanks for the insult. I have cut them open and found them about the same as the highly rated Premium Plus and Hastings. My tale measure says the Classic seems to be a cheapened version of the Premium Plus. Why pay more for the same thing or less?

I feel the same way, Cost really isn't relevent for me. We are talking a dollor difference between filters. As for ST No way and no how will I use a product from walmart.

Does anyone have Hard facts that the Bosch is the same without the yellow grip stuff? I may have to pick a couple up and cut them open

Email Purolator's customer service dept (it's on their website) and ask. If they are basically the same company, I doubt they would hesitate to clarify if they are the same guts or not.

Take the O-ring out, clean the splatter off with some carb cleaner on a rag, then reinstall O-ring. Yeah, a customer shouldn't have to do this, but after I saw splatter on my PureONEs that is what I did to fix the problem.

Purolator needs to fix their spray process to keep all splatter off the inside area of the filter IMO. It's the only thing I don't like about the filter.
That's either sloppy QC or no QC. If they can't get the paint right, do you think that they can build the filter right? Makes ya think huh?

No it isn't. Check river_rat's filter test.

Many Motorcraft filters are the Purolator Classic (not PureONE) equivalent.

From MiniMoparResources:

Motorcraft
Long Lasting FL-1A

This was an interesting filter. Basically, it appeared to be a Purolator Pure One filter cartridge in a Purolator Premium Plus case. Don't be fooled by the differently shaped holes cut into the oil inlet. This is the only difference. I have, however, seen that the Motorcraft line tends to change manufacturers. For a while they seemed to be Champion Labs filters, then they went back to Purolator. I also received some information from a Ford technician that the filters that come on the vehicles from the factory are not the same as those that are available to the dealerships.

Like the Purolator Pure One, the version of this filter cartridge featured a very large element surface area (400 sqin), but with many pleats (64). This packed the filter together rather tightly and could possibly restrict flow somewhat. I believe could identify the Pure One element media by a purple dye they use at the seam and by the texture. The 2008 version seems to lack all of these attributes and seems more like a typical Purolator. It also has the mysterious assembly string wrapped around the outside of the element. Like the Purolator, it features a spring-loaded metal bypass valve and a nitrile rubber diaphragm-type anti-drainback valve. The bypass valve is stamped right into the bottom end cap of the cartridge, so it is all one piece.

I don't think it's a PureONE, it likely uses different media. It has the same ADBV but I'm assuming the media is similar to if not the same as the Classic filters.
