PureOne Filter changes (another gold filter)?

While at AAP last night (picking up some more BOGO Synpower) I noticed some Pureone oil filters in different packaging. The boxes where off white with gold lettering and the filter inside the box was gold with all-grip material on the outside of the filter. Both the box and filter where marked as Purolator PureOne filters. Has anyone else seen these yet and do you know if its a packaging only change?

Curiosity got the best of me and I called the 800 number on the Purolator website. They put me on hold for a few minutes then came back and said they are implementing new PureOne marketing in 2008 that includes packaging changes, color changes (gold), and added an exterior coating to make it easier to grip. They stated other features of the PureOne oil filter remain the same. The coating on the new PureOne I examined last night appears to be the same as the coating material on the AAP Totalgrip, just gold in color.

Here are some pics of the old and new PureOne packaging. The filter is a darker gold than the picture indicates.

The PureOne's are the only ones I noticed as different when I was at AAP.

I like where they are heading. First they fixed the center tube that was 1/2 too short with a Wix style tube, then the non-slip coating. Bosch is doing the right thing for Purolator.

The PURE ONE with that grippy stuff will be my new fave as I already love that lube they put on gasket for a super easy removal! Thanks for the up-date.

I saw this filter last week, old time box look. I though it was an old promotion leftover, dint like the grip coating just feels eh, like a coated Christmas ornament.

I like the pure one Filters, The can isn't as thick as Wix, but what does it matter.

I dont like it.

Couldn't have said it better. And all the glitter comes off in your hands. I can see the glitter all over the gasket coating, and some down inside the filter itself I stopped and bought it, with some Pennzoil Platinum on sale for 3.90/qt. I'm bringing it back and going next door for a NAPA Gold.

CruzNlife1, very good point!
This is what I was worrying when I saw the filter.
Same thing happen to Advance Auto Total Grip, this is the main reason why I stay away from them even when they are selling at BOGO...
If I really need PureOne, I will grab all the old one... NOW!... unless Purolator have a better quality control.

[censored], i have about 12 of the old style pure ones for the corolla and around 10 for the bike, might need to grab what I can of the blue ones now

Someone want to call Purolator and ask if the glitter is abrasive and tell them we don't like to see it in the filter?

Maybe they will go Japanese style and wrap the open end with a plastic wrap. And pre-lube it too.

Am I just dreaming?

I'll stick with napas and wix. It actually feels like a plastic, and not real abrasive but still. I dont give a [censored] what my filter looks like, and even if the stuff isnt abrasive, I dont want it pumped through my motor.

As for stocking up on blue ones, there were NONE at this advance. ZERO, they were all these new ones

I don't get you guys. Most praised AAP's Sure Grip, and "wished others would follow suit". Now they have, and you all complain? I've used SureGrips -- and notice the pebbles in the box. I simply wiped the bottom of the filter clean (or inspected for dust/pebbles, and spun it on. I like the idea of grip, but why can't they use a rubberized (?) material like truck bed coatings -- or something other than sand-like?

I've asked the same question. At least a band of rubber coating for some added grip would be nice.

Bosch is far from a "glorified Fram"! They're made by Purolator and are identical in construction to the PureOne, but no one knows for certain if the media is the same. At the very least it's the equal of the Purolator Premium Plus which is a far cry from a Fram!
