Pump your gasoline slowly

For conversation only......

I have read and seen some info that claims in modern gas stations with equipment in good working order do not give you all the gas you are paying for...

The faster the pumps the less fuel you're getting.. many claim to take the extra 30 seconds and pump slower... Personally I can't stand those super slow pumps but......
Thanks, 09

One video claims that's not the issue but the pump design...
I'm sure we have guys in the industry here that can answer this
I really doubt it makes much of a difference. Next time weights an measures is around I'll ask them exactly how they test those, but I am pretty sure they use various flow rates for verification. They should be positive displacement meters anyway, measuring fixed volume not velocity so there really should be no effect. If anything a little extra should flow past on a well worn meter at full tilt. Maybe I'll learn you slow pokes are all being cheated!

He's a really good friend, but this annoys me.

So he's getting the hose gas the last guy left and taking the hose gas the next guy should get. Tell him he's breaking a trust and some would call it stealing.

Haven't seen it done for a long time, may have to start. Hey if it's a cup of gas do it 16 times and you got a free gallon!

OK folks this is one of the videos and please this is not an endorsement and it's presented to discuss minus the snide AI comments and I'm not paying Youtubers etc. Much info here but not gospel by any means....I believe around the 6 minute mark we see some info and a mention of getting cheated by up to 13 ounces on every gallon because of calibration issues etc...

No let's not get into Acetone as YT has a 100 of them right now... please don't beat thy neighbor lol 😆 🤣

Pablo read the transcript...i.know you don't have 22 minutes..

Nearing the end when I think the tank is getting full I always slow down as I hate that violent shut off..

I got gas today and did pump slow...
Who knows?

If gas stations were caught not giving you the correct amount of fuel I would imagine they would be paying a massive fine for that. 🤔 And they would be shut down if they were repeat offenders

True but what i see around here is bogus 93 octane... many places do it...

They shut down my Sunoco Friday to check the pumps... I have no complaints with that place

Walt does it too so we are good
He might need at least 2x 5 gallon jugs so he can set the hose how he tests. Add some to car and either drain or don't drain, then fill a 5 gallon can to test. Do that a 2nd time the same way to have multiple test points. Maybe a 3rd and 4th the opposite way to check those.

Seems like a lot of hassle. I have to put my faith somewhere in county weight and measures. What next? Question if I actually got .502 lbs of Roast Beef when they sliced it at the deli for me? They didn't tare that wax paper sheet first.

What if @slo town 's friend was there right before you? Now you would be missing those couple cents worth of fuel from the hose.
My friend and I have been known each other since 1973. The gas pump thing is one of his many quirks. When he does one of his quirky things I always remind him that "you're lucky I've known you for a long time!". Haha. Our lives would be less without each other.

All he has to do is watch a pump and make sure they don't do the hose trick and fill up one and then slowly fill up the other
No big deal...
I'd do it but I drive my mowers to the local gas station....very close and I bring a gallon jug and do the hose trick on all 12 pumps.... 😀

A while back I started pumping at the lowest setting the pump handle allowed. When it automatically clicks off (unless it's obvious it tripped for another reason), that's where I stop filling. This usually give me time to wash the windows. Besides, a tank of gas will go a farther distance than my bladder on long trips, so it's good enough.

What I don't like is where regular, mid-grade, and premium are all the same pump with one handle. Since I use premium, if the person in front of me didn't use premium, I'm getting less premium than I paid for. The person behind me wins if they're pumping regular. The circle of life.

When we had Sunoco stations up here and they introduced their Ultra 94, many stations had a completely separate hose just for that octane. I seem to recall a few other brands would also do that in the past. Nowadays I never see any stations doing this and it does bother me. I have heard that the hose can hold about 1 liter of the previously chosen octane. So if you were to only buy 20L of premium, you’re actually getting 5% 87 octane diluting it. Not cool.
