Hello,

I usually in the past have bought online, Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 for winter use for my car. This year, I am avoiding paying the extra steep price and would just prefer to use 5W20 Pennzoil Ultra, or go grab a jug of Mobil 1 0W20 for winter. Are the cold-flow properties that much different between these two oils? I thought maybe I heard somewhere that Pennzoil Ultra 5W20 was quite thin and not far off, but maybe I am imagining that, haha.

I have a jug of Pennzoil Ultra 5W20 ready to go and would have to buy Mobil 1 if I wanted to use it. Would it be that much more beneficial in cold weather to get the Mobil 1? Or just stick with the Pennzoil Ultra I have?

My car did extremely well with Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 via used oil analysis... My car seems to like this oil, which is why I would prefer to stick with Pennzoil Platinum / Pennzoil Ultra, but if I would be that much better off with a 0W oil, then so be it.

Some other tidbits: In winter, my car is garaged most of the time, so it usually is in slightly warmer temperatures versus outside. If this means anything :)

Thanks everybody!

I believe that the only place where you'd notice a difference (in cold start-up) between Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 and Mobil 1 0w20 would be in temps. far below 0*F, like the north pole.
In Cleveland, 5w20 should be great, especially with your car being garaged.

If you already have PU and like PP, then just use it. PU is going into my next 2 cars, both are currently on M1.

Yea its unfortunate its only available in quarts. I've seen 0w30 in 5qt jugs though. I'll stick to 5w20 in 5qt jugs cause the 0w20 qts are too expensive @ $6.37 each vs the current sale of $20.43 for a jug @ Walmart.

Hmmm, my Walmart still sells Mobil 1 0W20 in 5qt jugs here, as well as 0w30 as well. Did they get rid of those lately? My buddy just bought a 5qt 0w20 jug two days ago and sent me a picture!

Sounds good guys, I will put the Pennzoil Ultra 5W20 in tomorrow :)

Appreciate the help.

That would be nice if they are selling them, but the following is a quote from the Mobil 1 website;
"No, Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy is not available in 5-quart jugs.

I hope you're right and that this is old info on their site that needs to be corrected. But in all my travels, and I am always looking, I have never seen 0W20 in a 5qt. jug

Good Day, Steven

Weird, maybe my Walmart is still clearing out stock. Cause he for sure had a 5qt jug of 0W20 he sent a photo of. I swear I saw them last time I was there as well. I will check again next time though.

I wonder why they stop selling them in 5qt jugs?

You gotta pay pay your money and take your choice,Hoss. Personally,I would stay with what's working.

It seems to be a more specialized application. Some people like the high moly enough to look for it though

I'm sticking with Castrol EDGE 0w20, unless Pennzoil offers PU in a 0W20 and the specs are better than the Castrol EDGE specs are. I watch the AAP sales and stock up on it when it's on sale. In fact I started watching all the sales that are posted here. My AAP price matched O'Reilly for me. I got 5 qts of Castrol EDGE 0W20 and a Mobil 1 filter for $29.99. Not a bad deal IMO.
