Protect-o-plates

Do newer cars still have them? Last truck I bought new, a 1990 Toyota 4Runner came with one. The last used trucks from early 2000's I bought recently don't have them anymore (probably PO misplaced them?)

(Yep, found out what they called them on a tv show. Surprisingly my old Toyota had one of those, didn't know what they where called but apparently they were valuable.)

New cars have just a sticker. Check the door jamb.

They were small metal plates with information about the vehicle stamped on them. They usually came on a piece of paper and were not affixed to the vehicle by the dealer/factory.

These days we just get the sticker in the door jamb and the window sticker.

I think Protect-O-Plates were phased out when 17 digit VINs were mandated with the VIN in multiple locations. They were much more common before the 17 digit VIN. Any car I have seen with one was 1970s or older.

Get it? Protect-o-Plate? To protect the underside of the engine, and I guess, aerodynamics.....lol.
