I just bought a NAPA ProSelect 21516, and it had a thread end bypass.
Is my memory failing from seeing too many filters, or did they recently have a dome end bypass?

Do I are now be senile?

The numerous posts here saying they have dome end bypasses has discouraged me from looking at them. Be nice if they have switched. For a long time, the Ecores have been the only lower cost filters with thread end bypasses that I knew of.

Things seem to change all the time.

Thangs change...that's for sure.
I have no problem with dome end bypass myself and use a lot of them, but all other things being equal, I prefer thread end.

The ProSelects were not on the shelf at the store I was at, I had to ask for it. A couple buck more would get me a nice Gold, I know, but this is for a possibly short OC while I see if a new synth blend I want to try leaks out of my old VW engine.

Could have sworn the 21516 had a dome end bypass before.

I did not realize the ProSelect had gone to a combo valve. It doesn't say silicone so I assume it's nitrile.

They are a dome end bypass with current construction with a new style combo valve and much of the production has been shifted to Mexico if you find the threaded end bypass it is a FIFO rotation issue {first in first out}.

Can't be dome end bypass and combo bypass/adbv valve. Could be one or the other but not both AFAIK. Unless it's some new dual bypass design that Wix uses on the NPS, that I've not heard of.

Looking closer at the link it seems only certain NPS applications are affected by these combo valves, for now. The 21516 is one of them.

My mistake it is a Combo Valve only [By Pass/ADV] and it is on the threaded end of the filter > my defense > replying to post on friday nights while drinking beer.

Fram has them in what I see as the less desirable dome end. Again, where are all the engines destroyed by the orange can of death. Even the premium priced Purolator P1's have the dome end bypass.

I don't like the idea of oil washing over the dirty media on its way to the open bypass. Also, thick, cold oil has to travel farther to get to a dome end one.

When push comes to shove, oil filters don't deserve the attention they get here. May as well run what you get cheap or at least is American made by an American company.
