Hey all! I have a 2015 Fusion Titanium with 120,000 miles. I’m having a problem with my programmable garage door opener. The range of the opener has decreased dramatically. I literally have to be a foot in front of the garage door for it to work. I’ve erased all 3 of the buttons and reprogrammed each of them to the garage door. They all work but no way I can open the door from the street. Any help is greatly appreciated!

you may need a new board or new garage opener. i had this issue with my openers through the years and it was always the board. if your opener is older, maybe consider getting a new one .

Thanks for the reply! The garage door is only 6 years old. The problem is not with the supplied openers, they work perfectly. The problem is with the programable opener buttons in the visor in my car.

I have 2 that came with the opener, they work perfectly. The problem is with the programmable opener in the car’s visor
Sorry, I see now that you already answered that above. Obvious ask, but have you tried pulling power on the opener for a few moments? I know you don't think the opener is the issue but it is easy enough.

Simplest thing to try is to extend the antenna on the opener or reposition it. Doing this won't impact the opener's remotes and might help.

The fact that it's gotten worse over time isn't a good sign though.

Does the opener have a LED bulb? I think my opener says that they can cause interference.
They recommend a 100 Watt A19 incandescent, or equivalent mini CFL
Try removing the bulb, or replacing with a rough service incandescent.

There are also special LED bulbs designed not to interfere. I use them without fault.

As annoying as it may be, how about resetting the visor and reprogramming it? Maybe it is glitching somehow but I am afraid this could also be a hardware issue.

It was mentioned in my garage opener manual too, but it said that's caused by cheap LED bulbs and if that happens to replace them with "Good" ones.

thanks for the replies! I’ve erased and reprogrammed the buttons. They work but have almost zero range. I replaced the LED bulb with a mini CFL and that didn’t change anything either

You're very likely to find a visor at a wrecking yard, I would try that. It's a 5 minute swap on my Mustang. I don't really understand the concept of something electronic "wearing out" , but apparently they do.

You might want to look up the frequencies that WiFi and garage door openers operate on. It's not related.
That is correct. However the one I was dealing with was very close, about 6’, and when I tested it unpowered the garage door reception returned back to normal. My guess is the garage door receiver is a little overpowered by the AP.
