Problem with multiple MAF sensors

With my stock 70 mm MAF sensor and stock tune, I had detonation issues on my Grand Marquis. Went through h-ll and high water, and it still came back even with a stock replacement that was rebuilt.

Last week, I upgraded to an 80 mm Mercury Marauder MAF with a custom tune and the car had no acceleration. Looking at ignition timing on my ScanGauge-II, timing would retard at acceleration. There was no detonation.

Went through multiple tunes, thinking it was the upgraded injectors causing the issue but today I decided I would pull the MAF connector off to see what happens.

With the MAF off, the timing stopped retarding and acceleration was the same as it used to be before the tune. I'd get some detonation, but that's about it.

What's worrying me is that I'm having issues with three different MAF sensors. Any ideas as to what this could be? I'm thinking maybe the harness going to the PCM. Thanks!

Remove the Marauder air box and MAF and go back to stock. Don't worry about rewiring for the separate IAT, its not needed for now. Drive with stock tune then, try the custom tune for the stock MAF I'll send you shortly. We need to figure out if the issue is with the custom tune or MAF.

Actually that's what I did when I was replacing the connector. I soldered them together instead of using the crimping parts that came with it.

That said, she runs like a raped ape when reverted to stock with the stock tune. Trying to upload a custom tune for the stock MAF and upgraded injectors, but the iTSX app says I've reached the maximum number of vehicle modifications. Going to have to find a way to resolve that through SCT. Once that's over, we'll find out whether the fault is with the tune or the MAF.

If it's the MAF, then to heck with rebuilt MAF sensors. I'm going with a brand new Hitachi XW4Z-12B579-AA.
 
If your "upgraded" injectors are larger flow than stock i bet that is the problem.And the cure would be a custom dyno tune performed on your car to get the "upgraded" parts to work in harmony.
 
The injectors were where we were focused at first, but we solved that. I have the stock injectors for 2006-2008 Mustang GT with the 4.6 and that was incorporated into the tune. The MAF is the issue at the moment.

Only problem with a dyno tune is there's no tuner I trust locally with a dyno.
