Off a 2011 Nissan Versa, with whatever oil and this filter for 5,000 miles. Lot of stop and go driving as my lady friend delivers newspapers. Made January 23, 2016 and on line E and 1st shift. Didn't post date code pic as it was blurry.

By the looks of those tiny louvers its amazing all the oil is able to get though, it may have lived in bypass most of the time..Who knows.. Even with the louvers there have been reported tears in Purolaters.. Personally i did not see any myself but i stopped using them over a year ago because of their "issues"..
Time will tell as long as some of the brave die hard users post their cut open filters.
Their new colors and the paint jobs make them the prettiest filters out there in my opinion..

I won't use them and I'm on the fence about using my last 2 MC FL-910S. I have a P1 12222 to cut very soon that doesn't have "Louvers"

Can we give it a rest with the louvers bashing literally every post I've read of yours includes louvers somewhere in it.... they work perfectly fine end of story there are plenty of other things to obsess about

Not in this case ...

The little 14612 is pretty bulletproof.

Even FRAM can make a good 6607 in this size.

Photo shows the same orientation of the louvers as the other thread. From that perspective, the louvers look solid here too.

You're seeing the bad side of the louvers that look like bumps in the photo. There are pairs of louvers that face opposite of each other. Use "Ctrl +" to zoom in for a closer look.

The louvers on this filter look to be made pretty well.

I tend to agree with you on this SilverC6. I have the Purolator Boss and red I have run on my car. I'm going to look at them and take some pictures of them. I believe they were just fine. But I need to look again to make sure. So, pictures/my thread on them are coming later today.

I agree with you about the 14612 being tough to be short. But goodness... it's weedeater sized. Ohh and the Fram orange can 7317 have looked really good lately. I've got 2 of them waiting in the wings to go on.

Since I see no mention of any issues said PL filter, I assume this value/jobber tier made for PepBoys filter got the job done for the 5k miles. Looks good.

Thanks for pics.

Robo, with all due respect Look at some of the other posts with pictures Louvers are no good at all! For about 90 years or so the holes on the center tubes were round on oil filters and things worked well with little to no drama then some nit wit decided to reinvent the wheel and fix something that was not broken because of the round holes in the center tube. Tears come from cheap wonky media not round holes on the center tube. Im pretty sure lots of these louver filter designs spend lots of time in bypass especially in the colder temps and with heavier oil that some people tend to use.

Absolutely false.

You don't know more than Champ or Clarcor Baldwin/Hastings that have been using a louvered design for quite some time now. Also why your posts on the subject have zero credibility with me, and from reading here, safe to say some others as well.

And to put it back on topic, the topic PL filter is an example of a louvered design done properly and working as designed.

Looks like it did it's job just fine! I don't understand the whole louvers argument, I haven't seen any issues with them at all. We use Performax filters (Classic clones) in our shop and nobody's brought a car back with a filter problem yet. Many cars rack up a [censored] ton of miles on those filters without issues. Way more miles than I'd go on conventional oil and a basic filter! If people were having problems, we would have quit using these filters a long time ago. I run them on all my vehicles with confidence. There's a lot of oil pressure on the filter, there has to be or oil filters wouldn't be able to filter at all, oil's going to pass through those louvers no problem!

Did you see this thread?
Lack of Louvers [Link]

The argument is not if louvers are good or bad, but rather can they be formed correctly to ensure there is adequate flow area on the center tube. As seen in the link above, half or more of the louvers were not even punched all the way through the metal. If the flow area is restricted too much, then the delta-p across the filter could be high enough to open the bypass valve way too often, which is not really something you want happening.

If half the oil is always going through the bypass valve because the center tube it choked off, it will not 'blow-up' the engine, and it would be hard if not impossible to tell it's happening. People will drive along not knowing something isn't right. So if people judge the functionality of an oil filter based on if the engine blows up or not, then I guess choked off louvers are AOK.

On the other hand, those that know otherwise, wouldn't be putting a filter with closed louvers on anything they own. It would be beneficial to insect down the center tube of any oil filter with a louvered center tube to make sure they are opened up pretty good before installing it on the vehicle.

...The argument is not if louvers are good or bad,...

Actually as can be clearly seen once again in this thread, for one member specifically commenting here that's 'exactly' the argument being made.

And bringing it again back on topic, the topic PL is example of louvers done properly and working as designed. No extraneous exceptions necessary for this one.

Yeah, if champion labs is using Louvers then they must not be that bad. Interesting also is that this morning at Wal Mart; I

looked at the inside of a FL-1A, FL400S, and a FL500S. All had holes instead of "Louvers". The FL-910S has Louvers. Does ford know something we don't or....

Sayjac is correct. The louvers on the subject filter are formed correctly and the filter performed well for 5000 miles. There is no reason to criticize correctly formed louvers.
