I found a defective primer hose was the cause of a no start condition on a Briggs and Stratton 305 CC 13.5 ft lb side outlet engine on a Craftsman snow blower. The same engine was also used on some pressure washers.

The primer sends a jet of air to the carburetor to produce a venturi effect which draws fuel from the carburetor bowl into the throat of the carb. There is also a manually controlled choke present. It turned out the rubber hose deteriated and was holed-through and the bellow couldn’t produce enough of a puff of air to move fuel from the bowl. Also, the hole probably caused a lean condition and kept the engine from running. A new chunk of hose fixed the situation. Here are a few shots, showing the new yellow hose. On the snow blower version there is no paper filter, just a “ fly screen” type of cleaner. There wouldn’t be much dust expected after a deep snowfall. Enjoy.

They will crack faster if your using pump gas with ethanol, and no stabilizer. That ethanol destroys rubber hoses. I use Star Tron Enzyme fuel treatment in all my gas cans. Gas will remain good for up to 2 years. Just need a little bit too for a 5 gallon can. Haven't had a carb go bad or a hose crack since I started using that stuff. That ethanol is no friggin good for small engines. No varnish, no nothing.

On the picture of the “ flyscreen” air filter, there are two aluminum spacers. One went rolling to the same place that 1/2 inch and 12 mm sockets disappear to. I made a spacer out of 8 -1/4 inch washers sandwiched together with J B Weld. Hill Billy but it did the job. :D
