Price difference between regular and premium?

I saw in the past that on some places premium is like $1 more per gallon. Here a tank of premium is just a few dollars more.

This is the station closest to my house. It's packed from open to close.

The price difference between regular and premium typically runs $0.40 - $0.60 here in Utah. When I visit my son in Western Kentucky, the difference runs between $1.00 - $1.10. A hard pill to swallow.
 
I remember the days when there was just a $0.10 difference between regular and premium, but what you're showing us here is the norm in my area today. I can't say I've ever seen $1 difference. I don't know why octane became so expensive, other than all of the distributors put their heads together and decided that's the way it should be, or the materials really became that expensive.
 
I have a Mobil station near me charging $3.39.9 for 93 octane. That is pretty cheap here, where regular 87 octane averages $2.95 a gallon. Unfortunately, its now winter and my Corvette is garaged for the winter. My other vehicle runs on diesel.
 
Gas station near me has regular for $3.09/gal. Premium is $4.29/gal.

This craziness only happened in the last few years. I remember 5-6 years ago, the difference was only $.50/gal or so.

I find that stations that post the price of premium on their large street sign have prices considerably less for premium than stations that don't post the premium gas price on their street signs.

Sheetz is a good example of this. Years ago Sheetz had premium gas at a competitive price. When Sheetz decided to display the price of diesel on their street sign, premium was no longer displayed. this resulted in Sheetz significantly raising the premium price.

Unconfirmed, but observations suggest that Oregon has/had a state law that all fuel for sale is required to be fully displayed on the "street sign".
 
Costco $3.80 $4.20
Moe's Stop $3.93 $4.23
Mobil $4.10 $4.50

Gas prices have come down; I don't buy much cuz I use the EV.
Wifey uses GS for work; about $30 to $40.

Shell is always the most expensive gas where I live. But I always have some coupon or discount from them with that Shell app and the T Mobile Tuesday things, so it ends up being the same price as Costco. Bonus being I don't have to wait in line at Costco, and I get to visit fine establishments that sell kratom and "water pipes" aka meth pipes. It's usually about a 80-90 cents more for their premium.
 
Dang that doesn't seem far off than what I get here around Seattle area. Shell/76/Chevron stations are at that pricing range.

I filled up at an outskirt tribal station today, paid $3.6 E0 87. $3.1 87, $3.3 89, $3.46 92 were the other prices.
Usually pay $4.6 for E0 87 or $4.8 for E0 92 at my nearest gas stations.
 
In my area there are lots of Shell stations and actually the only thing I use unless in a pinch. Average between 89-93 is around .60-.70 pretty much year round. I know some will claim that any top tier fuel is as good as the rest, but I will just say that since having a DI engine for 11 yrs/115K miles now I've had ZERO fuel related issues and simply see no reason not to run the 93 octane V-Power. It is recommended by manufacturer to run higher octane due to being turbo'd and for a bit more $ I do.
