There are quite a few 4th gen 4Runners on the used market. It's a buyers market. I got the dealer selling mine to come down just over $2000.
I highly suggest registering the VIN on Toyota's owner site. It will give you the entire service history. I found every service record (around 25 total) on mine while Carfax only showed two records total.
Your market conditions for used 4Runners are different than here in Utah. NOT MANY for sale, especially in decent shape. Many are sold near asking prices. My Son worked at a Toyota dealership. If you didn't like the price, the next person would buy it. They did not sit on the lot very long at all. The V8s are in high demand.
Yes, far different conditions here. I was tracking a 2005 V8 with 124k miles. It had been on the lot for 120 days (per USAA car buying service website). They originally listed it for $12,999 and had dropped it multiple times to $8,900 before it sold. I wanted it but it sold on my way to the dealership after the final price drop.
Many 4runners on the site in this area had been on lots over 90-120 days. This may shorten with g gas.
