Prestone pre-mixed 50/50?

I was looking last night for a jug of antifreeze/coolant for my 2013 Ram but couldn't find any at my local CDN Tire store but I did notice this Prestone pre-mixed 50/50 which read, "Safe for all vehicles"? Maybe it's just me, but I thought most manu's had their own blend any only those should be used in the vehicle you owned. I didn't think anything existed or would exist that would be safe in all automobiles. I am not sure my Ram is down any, I just wanted to have some on hand as it is currently on sale and I am pretty sure if I were to purchase the Mopar/Ram coolant, the price would floor me. https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/prestone-premixed-antifreezecoolant-all-makes-formula/6000016949963 Thoughts on this? Would you use it in whatever vehicle you owned or would that concern you some?
 
I don’t know the Ram Antifreeze that well but I would not want to mix this with GM’s Dexcool. I top up my Ford yellow Antifreeze with the Prestone and I have one Ford Taurus that has Prestone in it. I never had any problems using Prestone Antifreeze. Also, up here the 50/50 blend is over priced compared to 100 % and a jug of distilled water. It’s mostly for convenience. Sort of like buying a soft drink at 7-11. LOL.

Embarrassingly, I don't either but like Dexcool for GM's, I am pretty sure Fiat/Ram also has their own and that is why this struck me as I didn't think anything was out there that was compatible for all makes? Prestone is a reputable company so I can't think they'd market something like this if there was fear about compatibility? I normally like to mix my antifreeze at 60/40 or even 70/30 as I find 50/50 is a bit on the weak side for the climes I am subjected too. Time to get out my manual and educate myself better!

The Autoparts store you went to had no ZEREX G05 I think its called? Its in a Gold Bottle and is specifically for MOPAR cars. Every Car parts store I have ever been to has it? Where did you go that didn't? Jeff

If they normally carry it, none was in stock as I searched high and low for it. Everything else was available, including a ton for foreign cars but zero, none, nil for Mopar. CDN Tire is also a car parts store, among other things, but it's where most people go to purchase items/things for their vehicles when they don't feel like purchasing from their vehicles manufacturer. http://www.canadiantire.ca/en.html
 
Prestone and just about all other all-make-all-models AF are usually dexclones anyway. Check and then double-check what your truck needs. I think Mopar switched out coolant requirements away from G05 sometime in '12 or '13.

Right. What color is your OEM stuff? Pink or orange = GO5. The new OAT stuff is purple.
 
Great information guys (I wish I could multiquote!) My Ram is a 13 and, IIRC, I think my reservoir color is orange? It is too cold out currently and getting dark but I will check tomorrow for sure to see if it is OAT or HOAT, or to see if there is a ID sticker on the outside of the reservoir? I did not know any of this so I am grateful I didn't add any to my truck. That is some great info and I appreciate you taking the time to copy and past those links! cheers
 
Scratch the above post. I just went out to check but I couldn't find a spot well enough to check the color nor any place where a ID sticker might be? I did grab my manual, however, and in it, it reads, "We recommend you use MOPAR Antifreeze/Coolant 10 Year/150,000 mile Formula Oat (Organic Additive Technology). My trucks holds/take 16 quarts or 15 liters.
 
My 2012 Ram was the last model year for G-05 HOAT 5 yr / 100,000 mile coolant. Thanks for those links. The one is definitely a good deal at $20.00. I haven't checked my dealer but I bet it's a lot more than that! Thanks. cheers
 
The $20 stuff is 50/50 premix, the $24 stuff is concentrate from what I can tell. Agreed, the dealership will likely have a significantly higher price. I'd return the Prestone unless you have another vehicle that uses something along those lines. I wish Mopar had kept Valvoline as their antifreeze provider instead of switching to CCI Manufacturing; if it was made by Valvoline there'd likely be a Zerex aftermarket equivalent readily available. Fiat strikes again!

While Recochem lists the Mopar spec as one of several including GM and Ford (both spec DexCool), the "orange" looks most like a DexCool OAT equivalent to me. Until and unless it could be confirmed that OEM 'orange' doesn't contain/use 2eha used in all DexCool OAT AF's, I would not use it or consider it. As noted, at this point Mopar proprietary formula OAT AF is the best option for the topic application.
 
^^^^ Which is why I used the term " equivalent" not "identical" If it was identical, it wouldn't be 5 year / 150K miles rated, it would be 10 year / 150K miles rated Clearly it's lower protection in terms of life in service, 2-eha or not Which is why I personally recommened OEM fluid via Amazon

Embarrassingly, I didn't know how to check the coolant/antifreeze level in my 2013 Ram until I Googled it. blush Swallowing my pride here as not sharing it doesn't help the next guy so if you are like me, these pics will come in handy on how to check your antifreeze/coolant level. I have been using a flashlight, with limited success so I am glad I found this. I had no idea this dipstick even existed as I have never heard of a coolant dipstick in my life.
 
I can just imagine the meeting where they decided to go that way: “ We forgot to leave room for a coolant recovery tank.” “ That’s OK, let’s just stuff it low like the battery and put a dipstick in it. “ “ OK “ . SF
 
The coolant overflow reservoir where the dipstick resides is made of opaque black plastic, so even if it wasn't out of sight, a dipstick would be required. At least they didn't put the battery tray longwise across the firewall like my wife's Mustang. That type of thing reminds me of the old Michael Nesmith skit on the Large Detroit Car Corporation from Elephant Parts: "From our Department of Faulty Engineering and Incredibly Dumb Design comes . . ."
