Saw this at AZ last night. Surprised to see Recochem’s OEM brand and Prestone on the same label. Recochem does own the Prestone brand now - and it makes sense to use Prestone’s US facilities for the US market.

Interesting. Wasn't previous owner KIK basically a bleach products company? I never saw the fit. 'Perhaps' now when they advertise "Asian" AF it will truly be that, i.e., no 2eha. If they follow the OEM brand model, that will be the case. Recochem gets the recognizable Prestone name. Have to wait and see if they follow the OEM brand model, at least with their Asian AFs.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Recochem's OEM coolant is good stuff. Prestone ruined it. And of course, Autozone's price is ridiculous :sneaky:

I checked Prestone's site, and sure enough, it has 2-EHA in it, when the Recochem didn't.

I’m starting to think 2-EHA might not be the bogeyman it’s thought to be. I’m using Prestone Cor-Guard in an older Sienna using the 3MZ-FE 3.3L V6. The thermostat housing/valley plates on the leak. It’s been almost 4 years since I did the repair - used Toyota’s expensive ThreeBond 1282B that’s supposed to resist coolant better - it was redone once with black RTV(either Permatex black or ThreeBond 1207B/Toyota 102) by Hertz or a dealer tech before my parents bought it as a CPO in 2006. The plate is still dry - it’s also a common issue with the newer UR-series V8s. I resealed a timing cover using Permatex Right Stuff 90-minute gray and that car uses Peak 10X.

While silicone and 2-EHA doesn’t play nice and both Prestone/OWI’s HD “premium” coolants with dual Cummins/Detroit approvals(Prestone Command Cor-Guard and Final Charge Pro-Series) don’t use 2-EHA, Permatex claims their “newest” Optimum series(and I assume Right Stuff) is Dex-Cool resistant and Toyota calls out 1282B to seal cooling passages. There might be some truth but also if the sealant is formulated to resist 2-EHA and other organic acids, it might be a moot point.

It was recently banned in Europe :sneaky:

I do feel sorry for anyone walking into Autozone and paying $35/bottle for 50/50 Dexclone, when you can get the Shop Pro house brand extended life universal coolant (Dexclone) for $10.99. I think Autozone attracts the highest percentage of customers who are ignorant of such technical matters and they're banking on them just walking in, seeing the Prestone name and OEM on the same bottle and like lemmings into the sea, just following the movement without a second thought.

Looks to me like the price on the display tag is $24.99.

The $34.99 is on a window poster for Valvoline oil behind the display.

It's toxic to gaskets :cautious:
Only if they’re silicone and even so. FKM(Viton) resists 2-EHA. EPDM isn’t phazed by it.

I have Prestone in an older Sienna - used Toyota’s $80/tube ThreeBond 1282B to reseal the valley plate. No leaks, the coolant level on the reservoir hasn’t moved drastically except for normal evaporation.
