I know this subject has been covered a lot, but most answers have not been definitive. So I thought that I'd let you all know what Prestone said in regards to running the Yellow bottle All Makes All Models coolant vs. the Silver bottle Prestone Dexcool.

I asked Prestone in an email which of their coolants I should use in my GM vehicle (saturn in my tag). I also asked what the difference is between them. Here is their response-

Good Afternoon,

Both of the products you mention are suitable for use in your vehicle. I recommend the use of the Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant in the yellow jug because it is slightly cheaper and will provide superior corrosion protection to the water pump thanks to our newly developed Cor-Guard inhibitors. The only differences between these two coolants are the color of the dye they contain and the concentration levels of some corrosion inhibitor compounds, but they are fully compatible with each other and can be used interchangeably. Please let me know if you require anything further.

Sincerely,

If that's the case, then the new stuff still contains 2-eha. Would still not use it in older vehicles that are not spec for Dexcool.

I really hope so. I know the dexcool/dexos1 spec fluids are recommended just to get more money out of people.

The Prestone Dexcool Concentrate is ~$14 at walmart. And the Prestone All Makes All Models Concentrate is ~$10. Thats a pretty big difference when talking Antifreeze.

Now compare a dexos1 spec oil- which is most likely full synthetic is going to cost more than a conventional non dexos1 spec oil.

Its just another rip off imo.

My local ACdelco parts house had ACDelco prediluted 50/50 dex-cool for $8.xx a gallon. That is a great price. My parents RV used 8 of them for a complete change, their Silverado used the rest for a 2x radiator drain/refill.
