I have a Troy-Bilt 2200 PSI pressure washer. I got it in 2005. I haven't used much and probably not at all in the last 5 years at least. The engine starts easily and it runs good, even on the original plug. The oil was changed previously and it's still golden, not black. However the pump appears to be putting out water pressure at a reduced rate, not enough to power wash with. What makes these pumps totally fail or diminish in output? Can they be rebuilt cheaply or is it best to by a new one for $100-$144, an AR or the original FAIP. The FAIP appears to be the more expensive one.

You can try rebuilding the pump. But a new AR is probably the best route. The unloader can also fair, constantly unloading not letting the pressure get up there to what it should be.

make sure its not leaking anywhere.. on the gun.

all o-rings and screens/filters are in good shape.

Its possibly wore out. The cheap consumer grade units are usually around 80hours max.

I have a 2006 troy built 2800psi with honda engine. Its been pretty good to me.. just needed some o-rings so far. It has aprox 65-100hrs on it.

The unloader was sticking one year but just using it fixed it... pump saver is your friend.

one 8$ can lasts me years.

^^^ This. I use pump saver after every use. The lubrication alone makes it worth it. As well as the antifreeze since I store it in the shed over the winter.

+1. It displaces water and lubricates. Both very important for storage and longevity of the pump.
