Have a 212CC Harbor Freight pressure washer with Chinese pump that has about 15-20 hours on it. I just checked the pump oil and found it to be filthy. Manual calls for 10W30 non-detergent oil, which is not very common in the US.

I'm thinking of running non-detergent SAE30 or Cat pump oil, which I have on the shelf. I'm not sure of the viscosity on the Cat pump oil, but it seems thinner than a 30 weight, almost like a 20 weight.

What do you guys recommend for this Chinese pump that calls for non-detergent 10W30?

Over the years I've used 30 grade non-detergent oil in various pressure washer pumps w/o issue. I don't really see much of a need for a 10W30 oil in them since they're typically used in warm weather. I have no experience with Cat pump oil, it might be a good choice as well.

I looked at the cat pumps website. This is what they say:

http://www.catpumps.com/oil-inquiries.asp

What type of oil does my Cat Pump require?

Cat Pumps require ISO-68, 30 weight, non-detergent hydraulic oil. Cat Pumps custom blended crankcase oil is exclusively designed, tested and proven to maximize the life of Cat Pump products. This special formulated premium grade, petroleum-based, ISO 68 hydraulic oil contains an advanced additive package to protect against wear, oxidation, rust and corrosion.

- Anti-wear additives protects metal to metal drive surfaces extending drive life
- High oxidative and chemical stability resists deposit formations and provides consistent fluid performance
- Premium anti-corrosion additives offer protection in the most demanding operating environments

---------------
Since Cat has confirmed on their website that Cat pump oil is a 30 weight non-detergent, I will probably use that since I already have a quart on the shelf.

I have a few cat pumps, I need to change the oil on those,
can someone pls point me to an amsoil oil that meets iso-68,

All these different oils are giving me a headache :-(

I have tried Amsoil commpressor oil as recommended by Amsoil aways thought it foamed way to much back on cat oil never foam And will always use cat oil only. Home Depot seems to carry it and stock it all the time.

Dont overthink this guys....its an oil bath..no combustion byproducts or anything....Go to auto parts..find a quart of the cheapest ND-30 u can find...it will be fine....trust me...been in the business since 93....

just be sure it's non-detergent in these pump applications. Oils with detergents will foam-up when beaten hard.

I am against ND oil in most OPE applications (ie. engines - although crusty old salts will argue otherwise) but for pumps, it's definitely the way to go.

Our pressure washer's OM gives a huge list of fluids for the Cat pump, but near the bottom is says ND 30 can be used. On the other hand, the local car wash has huge Cat pumps and they use regular 10w30.
