It's just nonsense because judging a muffled sound level and frequency spectrum by your ears among all sorts of other engine and ambient noises is nonsense unless perhaps you are a music expert with a perfect pitch.
This said, my engine runs and sounds smoother with the PAO-based M1 EP 0W-20 SN PLUS. However, is it louder or quieter? That's something impossible to say without a sound-level meter.
