Premium Petroleum Or Cheap Synthetic

I run Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, or Quaker State Ultimate Durability (find on sale) Yeah - Hard on oil and ATF ... I drained the ATF at 40k - if I had not known the 10mm vs 11mm - would of thought it was motor oil with 40k ...
Started doing ATF @ 20k since Cruze is just 4 qts ATF and easier than an oil change (do at same time) ...

The Sonic, like all GM cars from the past 5 years, requires dexos oil. Pennzoil conventional doesn't meet dexos, but Super Tech synthetic does.

Pennzoil Gold (a synthetic blend containing "at least 50% synthetic") meets dexos, though, but I like to use teh cheapest full synthetic on sale. So my choice between Pennzoil Gold and Super Tech synthetic would be the Super Tech.

My choice would be the ACDelco filter and the cheapest synthetic on sale. And if you're near a Napa, watch for the sale on their house brand synthetic, which is made by Valvoline and is rebranded Synpower. It's not on sale now, but it does go on sale a few times a year for $3/qt.

Also, you don't need to change the oil every 3-5k. The Sonic, like all recent GM cars, has an OLM that tells you when it's time to change the oil, which could be twice as long as you plan on doing.

Unfortunately though when it recently went from Group III Visom to majority PAO it lost Longlife-01, demonstrating that focusing on base stock is a poor indicator of performance.
Sounds like they didn't apply for it - Or it will be superseded.

either that, or Mobil cant blend worth a &^$%$ anymore (again). I am no PAO fan, but it is a synthetic component.
Lack of self detergency when low saps package expires the oil oxidises rapidly.

I am no LL fan.

Change your oil!
