PQIA tests three 10W-40s - One is very poor

MaxiGuard "Super Premium" 10W-40 is so bad it can harm an engine. Looks like used oil with little or no additives, and its a only a 10W-20. Hard to believe people put this stuff in a bottle and call it Super Premium.

The people who put this in their vehicle have no idea what is in it. Like most of us when buying products, they trust what is said on the label. As for how such a product finds its way into a bottle, it doesn't. IMO, Someone knowingly and willingly puts it in a bottle. The motive and ethics are apparent. Unbelievable is right!

Thank you Tom for the informative posts of PQIA over the last year or so.
3 questions, 1 comment, & a suggestion,if you would:
how did this look coming out of the bottle---did it look like any other new oil, or could you tell something wasn't right as soon as you starting pouring it?
Did it smell any different than normal new motor oil?
How can I view the Nov 7 2011 results-when I click on a bottle, it is not enabled

Maybe they should have poured this in the crankcase of Cash for Clunkers-it may have been faster than dumping sand down the intake

Distributor MG Lube is in Old Tappan, not Old Tappen.
Signature Brand has an 'a' in it-spelled incorrectly in the table

well on the bright side the spectrol looks really good. apparently a sample from the same brand taken last year did not meat NOACK requirements though so i would be wary of purchasing anything from that brand

I did not see or smell the oil. The sealed bottles are sent directly to the independent lab and opened there.

These results just show that in the absence of concrete knowledge about an off-brand oil, you are better off avoiding them.

Maybe the exception being Jiffy Lube.

In the 10W40 tests, one called Everclear failed. I would think it is filtered waste oil, but if so, they filtered all of the additives out and left the wear metals. Their website looks much better than their oil: http://everclearoil.com/products

I noticed a local store has lots of Everclear for sale for $2.79/qt.

That one is completely worthless. It was more wear metals than anti-wear metals
