PQIA tests nine more 5W-20s, plus a master chart

Continuing in the series, PQIA has published test results for nine more 5W-20 motor oils.

In addition, results for 27 of the 5W-20 oils tested to date are consolidated on to a master chart for convenient review.

Thanks for the post.

I don't know what happened with the Valvoline Nextgen but it's disappointing if those results are accurate. I thought for sure that Valvoline would formulate the Nextgen blend to be PERFECT, in order to show unbelievers that the recycled oil is just as good (if not better) then new oil.

I also hope it's just the 5w20 that is suffering, because I use 5w30 in my Scion tC and need it to perform!

I really liked valvoline's letter about their noack issue.

PQIA should be boring 99% of the time.. thats a good thing.

I also think valvoline clearly missed the boat at least on that batch. Its not even close to the accepted +-1~~ for procedure b

I agree. If they are trying to prove recycling oil provides a quality finished product I would assume they would insure that every drop that left their facility was perfect in every way,but they've shot themselves in the foot and possibly turned the people who were giving them a chance away and then what do they do next.
I agree with the idea of recycling as much oil as we can since its not really a renewable resource however if the big shots like valvoline can't orovide a quality product consistently who out there can do it.
G-oil breaks my heart too. The oil itself is fantastic and cost incentives make it a great buy but it just hasn't caught on and I fear the market will swallow it up and spit it out.

At more than twice the price of Mobil 1 for 5w30 G-Oil needs to be more than "fantastic" to be a "great buy." It needs to be super-fantastic-double-plus.

I've used the 5w-20 for about 3 years now in a 08 Liberty 3.7 V6. Im switching to a High Mileage oil this year (NextGen Maxlife).

I really can not say anything negative about the 5w-20. But then I'm not a oil scientist either.

X2 every time I see a side by side line up anymore I wonder why I'm not just running PBY in everything. Definitely going back to it in the Jeep as soon as I get this stash used up.

Didn't most of the Americans who bought g-oil capitalize on the rebates and such and basically got the oil for free.
Is that fantastic enough.
Now I'll agree that walmarts 25 dollar jugs is very tough to beat and if I could I'd be all over Mobil 1 0w-40 at that price but it wasn't always that price and such a great deal.

Just makes Pennzoil Conventional and Quaker State Conventional look even better. Not even on the NOACK alone which is the largest stand out spec.

That oil is #1 on my list to see, I can't believe no one here has done a used oil analysis/VOA on it yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a run of Dexos oils to compare as there are getting to be quite a few of them.

I can't get them interested in High Mileage oils I sure wish they'd do a nice line up of those.

It would be nice to see from our perspective, but in the context of the PQIA mandate, do officially licensed dexos1 products need to be checked for compliance by the PQIA, above and beyond whatever it is that GM does to ensure compliance?

Well, I guess that's my last fill of MC semi-syn. It had a nice run and was one of the first 5w20s that I could depend on being available but I think it would be silly to not go to Pennzoil conventional next time around. The moly fiends must be drooling right now.
