I had the first oil change on my 2008 MDX this week, where I drained the stock fill for Pennzoil Platinum 5w20. I would swear the engine sounds quieter and feels smoother running. Anyone else notice this, or am I just doing wishful thinking?

What is the recommended grade for your 2008 MDX? If you changed to a 5W-20 from the recommended 5w30, does the car feel more responsive?

thats what you get when you go from conventional to most synthetic oil.
I felt what you felt when i switched my 07 civic from conventional to Mobil 1

I noticed when I went to M1 from dealer fill. It's just the difference in syn vs. dino. See if you mpg slightly increases.

agree PLATINUM makes engine quieter . Engine seems a bit more responsive as well . ENJOY

I feel the same improvements whenever I change my britches.

While it is possible for some oils to yield a "quieter" running engine, as long as the viscosity didn't change due to the change, I'm not sure a rear-end dyno could detect any miniscule beneficial effects.

I recall pumping up the tire on my bike as a kid. I felt as if I were riding maybe 8 inches higher off the road surface after pumping it up. Then, I looked down, and it was flat as a flitter.

Beware the placebo effect.

That said, PP performs exceedingly well in my vehicles, as backed up by UOA, easily going twice the manufacturer's recommended longest OCI's. So, I use it!

No change in vis. 5W-20 is factory fill, recommended and what I used.

Went to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 after using a conventional 5W30 and didn't notice any difference in quietness...However there was less oil consumption with the PP...I have noticed a difference in quietness when using 10W30's.

Changed Mobil 1 0W40 to Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 in 2000 MB e430, the engine is quieter and gas mileage increases from 17.5 MPG to 18.5 MPG the last 2.5k miles.
