My local WalMarts store is not replacing the 5 quart jugs of PP. The shelve space is reduced to tw jugs wide by 4 jugs deep. I bought the last two 5w30s. Anyone know if All WM are reducing PP inventory?

You know I was at my local wally today, and noticed there shelves were dry of PP quarts included.....Also MIA.....EDGE. I have no idea whats up!!

I know 3 days ago they had a column of PP in Gallons

Dude, change the title, people will think PP is really "going away"!!

How about changing it to My Local Wal-Mart not Replacing 5 Quart Jugs or something like that.

This is an amazing example of how efficient the Wal Mart supply chain is. Something that is usually in stock with about 20 items is down to five, and that's so unusual that a consumer might think the item (which has been a mainstay for a decade) will no longer be in stock.

Hate them or hate them even more, but they have inventory to a minimum and are amazing with their management of it.

I wouldn't worry about PP going away.

Yeah, and Walmart stores are always trying to keep up on the restocking. People are buying stuff and cleaning the shelf out like they're hotcakes. Come back to the store a few hours later and likely the stock is full again.

This is not true. Home Office decides what stores carry. If the product is not a great seller, they will change the modular and increase shelf space for what does sell. If everyone buys the quarts, and not the jugs, they will get rid of the jugs and expand facings for other products.

Also, orders are usually system generated based on on-hands. However, there are times when the item may be a warehouse out or there may be a reduced supply from the vendor so the store will only get a half order.

Going to have to agree with this poster and for maybe the 1st time disagree with Johnny. A good friend of mine was a Wal-Mart dept manager( actually the auto dept to boot )and he used to get angry because he had NO control over/input into what the store sold nor did the actual store manager. Wal-Mart HQ decided what the stores got to sell and apparantly they don't listen to what the stores say or ask for either. They decided period. Unless that has changed since my friend left the company in which case I apologize to Johnny.

Or for a simpler change it could be, Is PP going away? At the Walmart by my house they had a couple jugs of each weight and a few quarts of each except 5W30 which only one quart was available.

Very true. Last Saturday we were there to pick up a few things and I bought the second to last MC FL-820 on the shelf. Two hours later the belt on the vacuum broke and decided I may as well get some windshield deicer and other things to make the one mile trip back worth while and low and behold the shelf was full of FL-820s. Products fly off the shelf and get restocked quickly, even, maybe especially, in automotive. Of course that did not apply to M1 a year or so ago but they did post a sign with an explanation. Usually don't see any old stock at my local Walmart automotive. And they had all the PP you would ever want. The $15 rebate on PP is coming to a close so maybe that is a factor.

My wife worked at Walmart up until 2 years ago and Home Office decides what the stores get to sell.
She still goes there to shop and has friends there, and nothing has changed in that regard.

I was told by a manager at Wal-Mart that the overhead LCD TVs in the aisles and the heating and A/C thermostats are all controlled from the head office in Arkansas.

PP locally just went up to 23$ at walmart.. M1 is now 22$ if my stash ever runs out I will find it hard to justify using PP over M1 unless its got a rebate etc

That's PP's paradox. No one will pay near M1 prices for it. It needs a distinct competitive edge price-wise to keep moving off the shelves. I've found it the most cyclically yo-yo oil there is.

It's very recently gone back to it's $26 price at the Wally's in this area. Coming soon to a Wally near you? PP was still $20.
