PP basestocks, Then and Now

Why did Pennzoil switch the Platinum basestocks from Group IV to III? Or does anyone even know for certain? Why did they even bother starting out with IV instead of III?

It supposedly never was Group IV.... it was tested as being alot of Group V (EOP).

The two ~10K used oil analysis I have using both formulations are nearly indentical.

I don't know. But, I do know it gives good UOA results in my vehicles, and I can get it at very good prices by watching for sales.
