Long-time reader of BITOG, 1st post. Will stay with PP for 8k oci.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7 ltr, 45k on vehicle, 7k on oil, 60% highway. Have a 2010 Honda Pilot w/ 3.5, almsot ready for 1st oci, I'll send to Blackstone on the FF.

PAUL: Universal averages show typical wear levels for this
type of engine after about 4700 miles on the oil. Insolubles are solids caused by heat, use, and oxidation. The oil filter did a good job at keeping those at bay. The TBN was 2.2, still some additive left. No fuel or other harmful contaminants were present. Try 9,000 miles on the oil next time. Looking good.

8K is a reasonable OCI and PP is working great for you! What type of oil filter are you using? I think the Fram ExtendaGuard would go the distance of 8K along with your choice of oil. I am starting to favor the 0w30 Mobil 1 and the Fram filter in my engines.

Looks good but if this was M1 I'd have to point out that iron is kind of high

What was the time span. It gives an idea of what 8k means to the filter. If it's a daily driver you have the same number of warm up events as the short trip daily driver. What he doesn't have is the virtually invisible miles that you do. The 40% non-highway may not make mileage as good an indicator of usage.

Anyway, it did well. If this falls around 6months, you're about where you want to stay.

Is the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7 ltr an all steel motor? I believe the new generation Platinum might give better numbers as it has a higher boron content than this sample shows.

The 4.7 has overhead cams and I believe aluminum heads. I have one is a 06 Durango. Good motor for reliability and length of life but you have to watch the PVC issue. They are know to shed a bit of iron on UOA's.

Thanks for the replies/comments. I used a PureOne filter. The PP went from Sept 09 to May of 10-9 months. It's my wife's daily driver. Apx 20 miles one way to work-all highway, plus driving the kids to activities. In the winter I add snow tires and it's our 'go anywhere' vehicle!

I would stay at 7k and try the better PP,as Johnny suggested,or M1 EP which seems more durable than the regular M1 or PP in my, fuel diluting,'02 Accord V6.

Great time span for keeping the sump in. By the way it reads, you could have gone longer. I don't know if you can make it a year, but it's got more life in it if that's what you seek.
