ran the PP 5W-20 for 8000 miles on the Mazda 6 with regular Purolator oil filter, mostly hwy driven

the oil was still very thick and good when it was drained out, thou with a little burnt smell, at least it's still good

compare with the 5W-20 dino oil with 5000miles, it came out with watery and heavily burnt smell, that's alreayd a huge difference. Mazda recommends 5000miles OCI with 5W-20 dino oil for the Mazda 6

now i wonder the RX-8 would really last that long with using the same engine oil

This is like the 3rd thread I've read where someone has remarked about their PP smelling burnt; one guy even said it's normal for that oil.

Please define "good".

Good means the oil is still thick when u rub between the fingers (gloves on of coz), the dino oil came out watery which means the oil was pretty much breakdown, which is not a good thing.

i have driven the Castrol GTX HM and i raped the civic thru 2500 miles and it came out like water

the smell wasn't that bad, it's been 8000 miles and compare with dino oil that's pretty impressive

i wouldn't risk 8000miles with dino oil

this time i have used Pure One Oil filter and Syn Power 5w30, will keep the same 8000miles OCI and see how it will go
