I have a "cheap" Costco special powerwasher with a 3.5 Hp Tec engine.

The pump is bolted onto the engine. The pump has a plastic screw cover ..when opened I saw some oils in there. How much..who knows. No drain plug for oil.

Are you supposed to change the oil? Add some if it seems low?

Manual to the unit has been lost so it's anybodies guess.

Any info whould be helpful.

Well I took off the pump's oil plug....took off the 4 bolts from the engine and rotated it upside down. 1/2 ounce of oil drained out.

I read where these units typically take 4-6 ounces. So I filled it with 5 ounces of Amsoil 5w30 Hydrostatic oil.

Started it and it runs fine.

I think I saved the pump from destructing from overheating/seizing.

1/2 oz ouch! That does not sound good. Some of the pumps take special oil, or motor oil.

You better track down some info on that thing. Don't want to fly by the seat of your pants.........

What brand washer and pump? If you can identify the pump you should be able to find the capacity and type of oil at the MFGs website.

it`s more than likely the faip pump, they make most all pumps for the lower end pressure washers.i have a lowes brand with the 5.5 hp chinese built honda motor,(horizontal shaft)and the one season wonder faip pump on it.word of advise, change the pump oil at least twice a year (w/synthetic oil) or it wont last long.i use the briggs & straton synthetic pump oil from lowes, (when i can find it)so far, mine has lasted almost 4 years.and i use gc in the engine, works terrific.

My northern pressure washer pump specifies NON-DETERGENT SAE 30. I would guess it holds about 1/2 quart.

Can't say for sure what your pump holds.......

is that the craftsman clean & carry model?? if your pump is at the bottom of the engine, their is a fill/drain plug on the pump usually black.run the washer so it heats up the oil, drain it,and add 15W-50 mobil-1 synthetic oil.since you havent done this yet,i suggest doing it a couple times to flush out the old oil real good.

Best to find the manufacturer and model of the pump, which will be on the pump housing. Check the mfg's web site for lube requirements. Some pumps take ND-30, some take 90 gear oil, some take the mfg's secret formula.

I have the clean and carry also. I bought measured pump oil from sears in a bottle and changed it after the first year of use. Don't know what viscosty or type of oil it is. It was cheap!
