For the longest my steering has been stiff at idle. I am hoping it is a dirty/clogged system adn not something gone bad. since a flush is much cheaper than changing the rack (and possible another pump) i was wondering if anyone knew of any good product to do a quick flush. Did a search and someone recommended Seafoam Transtune. Now i am far from a seafoam fan for intake cleaning but maybe for this. anyone else have a good recommendation?

Make sure your belt is not slipping and at correct tension. Check your tire pressure/alignment.

It doesn't have crazy PSF. If Pentosin 7 or 11, they're just ultra high VII fluids.

Depending on fluid conditon, you don't need a flush. Just siphon/refill it a couple times with a few days driving in between siphon/refills.

I owned a Saturn car in the past which had a power steering unit that would squeal every time the weather was cold at first startup. I added a little Lubegard power steering supplement to it and the squealing never came back-ever. Plus you can do an Auto-RX cleaning.

Usually it is varnish inthe system that gums things up. You would probably be ok with Seafoam. I have used Marvels Mystery Oil for years to clean out PS systems and have never had a problem. I would add a resovoir worth of MMO and leave it in for a week or two. I once left MMO in for over 7 years. I had to repair a power steering line while out off roading. No one had any ATF as we all had manual transmissions. A friend had a quart of MMO behind his seat. I filled up the resovoir and started up the engine and continued to fill it until it read full. I never got around to changeing out the fluid after that I just forgot about it. Now mind you it was power recirculating ball and joint not rack and pinion so the system held a lot more fluid then a modern rack and pinion system. When THe vechile was about 13 years old the power steering pump started to go out so I put a junkyard pump on it. The fluid still looked great but was rather thin. That is when I rembered what I had done. THe system was completely clean.

Seafoam has alchohol and naptha init and should be strong enough to remove varnish. Auto-Rx is a much safer was to go if you have the time to wait.

I'll have to remember this. All my cars have steering boxes.
