How do you like the Maverick Hybrid if you don't mind me asking?

Likes/dislikes?

Thanks
Lots of likes, not a ton of dislikes.

Pros for me:
  • perfect size, easy to park etc
  • hauls just enough to be useful (4x8 sheets, 1500 lb payload; newer models tow 4000 lbs, mine is 2000 lbs)
  • MPG of course, over 12,000 miles I've averaged 37 mpg city/highway in the SE USA
  • eCVT should be bulletproof, 2.5l engine has been used 20+ years and is also durable
  • Fords are hackable, I added adaptive cruise, lane centering to my '23 XLT for $600 (those were lariat only options at $8k upcharge), then put a Comma.ai box in it which was a drop in
  • Price/depreciation, purchased for $27.5k in 2023, Carvana is offering me $26.5k on the spot as of two months ago 2.5 years later

Cons:
  • very easy to scratch the interior, a fingernail will do it
  • cheap build, rattles in interior cabin starting at 800 miles, some can be fixed with foam, some cannot be found
  • winter MPG due to Atkinson engine is quite bad, normally around 30-32 highway in sub-freezing temps
  • There are 12v charging issues, hopefully Ford figures them out. Supposed to update us 2Q2026.

I would personally wait till the 2028 redesign to come out to see if they've improved the interior. Ford is also releasing an EV Maverick around then for which I'm interested in as well.

Fair enough...good write up. Appreciate it.

The loss of mpg capacity is inherent in all hybrid/phev/ev during colder weather...reading I've done says one can expect 10 to 20% reduction depending on temps.

I drive a 7+ year old clarity phev which not only decreases available EV miles in colder months...over time the battery loses capacity to recharge to new car capacity...so total EV miles available to drive also decreases significantly as the car ages as well...not a con just factoid given current technology.

That'll change one day as battery technology changes n adapts.

Thanks

These are worth a look , improved the traction of '26 A.W.D. , not sure if the '25 can be upgraded . Good lucking trucks !

Looks like its make it to the mainstream news now as well.
Yes, I'm seeing it in all sorts of mainstream media now. And yet I was just able to buy a couple more jugs of Valvoline Restore and Protect at Meijers for $28.99-the lowest price I've seen since it's inception. And they were fully stocked. And Walmart still has marked down prices on lots of their popular products with good amounts of inventory.

Yeah I saw they upgraded the AWD system. Honestly I like my hacked XLT and Comma.ai box, and really like the front ends of the 22-24's more than the 25+. Also I like the tactile environmental controls on the 22-24's. I'll keep mine for now, and see what they come out with in '28.

In 10 years the 25-27 AWD hybrids will be the new round of beater trucks I'm thinking.

I was at two different Wally World stores in SE Michigan this week (Wednesday and today) and the oil shelves were full. Several brands were on sale. Why would they offer a sale if supplies are about to run out? That is contrary to supply and demand economics.

It really is an odd deal. My only thought is these promotions and prices are planned out well in advance, and as long as they have product, they are going to go ahead with them due to agreements with the vendors.

Was in my best local Walmart last night (a well kept, well stocked store) and they had literally everything on the shelves. Plenty of 0w20, an assortment of 0w16 and even some Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w8. So it seems things will continue as normal...until they don't.

My Walmart in Westfield, Ma was stocked pretty good. One jug of 0w-8, and one 0-16 Mobil brand. Had ESP and Euro oil. Valvoline Reatore and Protect too. Supertech Warren was stocked too. Got to talking to a guy who had read the news about the shortage and couldn’t find Castrol 0w-20 so he was ticked. Plenty of other brands in Ow-20.
Big empty space where the Fram cheap filters used to be. Mobil filters were stocked good. Saw no real shortage yet.

Supertech has started clearing out at the walmart in town here and the major brands are getting very light on stock. There was 0w-20, but no 0w8 or 0w16 of any brand. I got the last jug they had of gear oil.

Not panic buying or hoarding. I forgot to fill the transfer case on my Jeep and didn't have any around for some reason. Whoops.

I was at my local Wally World in SE Michigan on Friday May 29th. The shelves were starting to thin out. The 5-quart jugs of Mobil 1 0W-20 were still on sale for $26.XX, however.
