Gas to Liquid (GTL) base oils are going to be a major byproduct of the massive Shell Qatar GTL project coming online soon. The base oil products coming from GTL are very high quality ("super group iii). There use in lube oil is well established. Especially in Europe where there is very limited Group III & Iv production capacity. Was reading in a trade journal last week that the base oil "byproducts" from this Qatar project may be greater than desired, resulting in a possible glut of group iii+ base oil. Good for consumers.
