Post your latest small engine oil change

Nice of you to do that. Does a Honda GCV have what it takes for that application?
Absolutely 100%. I was surprised at how easily that motor handled the work load. It took about 20 minutes to do with that Husky what would’ve taken me two hours with my ole craftsman. I changed the oil and topped off the gas with non ethanol fuel.

My DRT 900 will be cracked out soon. The oil was done a year or two ago and wont have enough hours to change. I concur, it is a capable little machine and served me well. Years ago, I would run it 4+ hours straight with no issues, tilling our outside riding arena at our old acreage.

Today, changed the oil in the little Honda GX120 water pump, which is connected to a 300 gallon poly tank. Maybe 10+ hours of use and likely changed 2024.... today being its second oil change since new.

Out was likely Co-op DMO 10w30 semi synthetic CK4. In was the same. Finished off a 20L pail.

While a simple job in theory, I suspect God doesn't come around these parts because it turned into a mess. Due to its mounting location, everything is in the way. I spilled more oil than the crankcase needed. Oh well, its done for a few more years.

Cub Cadet XT1 46" with Kohler 7000 22 hp twin. First oil change at 5.0 hours using Kohler 10w-30 branded oil and filter.

B & S powered 550EX MTD push mower. Drained and filled with fresh B & S SAE 30 along with new spark plug. Overfilled it a tad, so tipped it again and let a little drain back out.

Troy Bilt TB120 brand new with 1 hour run time. Oil was full of shiny glitter.

Out: Factory supplied SAE30 approximately 18oz
In: Pure Guard Syn Blend 10W-40 18oz

Troy Bilt 2410 snow blower w/ 179 c.c. engine : 16 - 17 ounces PENNZOIL Platinum 5w-30 ( S.P. ) dated 2022 . Gave it a good shaking .

HONDA GCV 160 self propelled mower : 11 ounces PENNZOIL Platinum 10w-30 ( S.P. ) . Mower is 16 or 17 years old .

Used 2 ounce veterinary medicine syringe with plastic tubing to remove oil for both engines .

Installed a Quaker state QS8A filter and filled with maxtron 10w30

Parents acquired a secondary mower last week. An x300 John Deere with the same Kawasaki engine as the 240s

I didn’t know Quaker State made filters

Couple of days ago:
- Honda push mower oil changed (Rotella 15w40 out/in), blades sharpened, air filter tapped on the bench; poor man's filter maintenance.
- Toro snow blower oil changed and "winterized" for summer. Rotella 5w40 out/in. I only had half the quantity of 5w40 left, so this got the leftovers from other ventures, including some 5w30, the dribbles from 0w20 bottles, and a tablespoon of 15w40 to even out the alleged viscosity differences. Ran it empty, drained the cup, etc. Pulled the cable until it seemed to resist so hopefully at top dead. Stuffed it in the back of the yard shed. I think I ran it maybe 6 or 7 times this last winter. This was the first full season in my ownership. It had one oil change since I bought it used. The color of the oil out was rather dark for T6 and a short usage.
I should probably just switch my small engines to 5w40.

2 snowblowers, one is a few year old craftsman, the other I have no idea what brand it is since all the labels are gone, but it’s about 30 years old.
Drained unknown oil from the old blower and orielly 5w30 out of the craftsman.
Filled both with Kirkland 5w30 synthetic.

Also drained the fuel and ran some fuel stabilizer through the system added to the remaining fuel I couldn’t drain out, till they were dry.

Honda GCV 160 on a Troybuilt lawnmower.
Out: Drip oil + Mobil TDT 5W-40
In: 9oz of Drip oil + 4 oz of Mobil TDT 5W-40

Drip oil was a mix of Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20, HPL Engine Cleaner 30, Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20, Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30, Castrol ActEvo 4T 10W-30 and Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40. There's a surprising amount of residual oil that comes out of an 'empty' oil bottle when left to drain overnight. I collected 9oz since the last mower oil change a year ago. It takes a little extra time to collect to use it in the mower, but I'd rather do that than throw it in the landfill.

Oil out looked dark amber. Oil in was light amber. After 22 years and a few over heating incidents (grass buildup around cylinder air fins), this mower is still running strong and does not burn any oil. The mower itself is starting to fall apart, though.
