This is the second “break-in” oil change at 5.5 hours. First OCI was at 3.5hrs with the included quart of 30W Generac oil. That oil was full of shiny glitter. I hit 5.5hrs today using my shop vac to clean out our vehicles floorboards and after letting it cool for ten or so minutes, I drained it and I noticed a small amount of glitter this go’round.

Out: one quart of Quaker State 5W-30 Conventional
In: Same. I’m gonna run this fill till 10hrs then drain and replace with 5W-30 full synthetic.

To get the most of the glitter out, don't wait 10 minutes. The glitter starts to settle in the bottom of the engine. Or, at least start the engine back up for 30 seconds and then drain right away while the big stuff is still suspended in the oil.

Out / Off: 2 quarts 15w-40 Rotella T6 @ 32 hours and Fram TG3614 with 64 hours
In / On: 2 quarts Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30 and Fram TG3614

I guess that gives me two years to settle on a new filter for this application now that Fram is no more.

I have the same mower, but only 156 hours on it. It’s built to last for sure.

Changed from Supertech HD30 (not a fan) out of my Lawn Chief with a 3.5HP B&S to Mobil 1 15W50 and talk about a difference. This engine is still very healthy but it has always smoked a bit at hot idle from brand new with any oil I ever tried or my dad tried, throttle it up and it goes away. Doesn't make much sense as it never uses more than about 2 OZ per oil change if any at all. Doesn't do that at all anymore with this 15W50 and even sounds and feels smoother when mowing. Works for me...found my new flathead Briggs oil.

Pumped about 5 shots worth of Schaeffeurs 274 Grease in the gear case as well. Unit only sees maybe 2-3 hours worth of runtime a year, still has metal flake in the oil when changed....Doubt I'll wear the engine out with use. Did have to clean the carburetor this spring though, unit wouldn't run without shots of carb cleaner down the throat. Had Stabil in the Gas and non-ethanol gas from the late fall. Maybe just unlucky besides the jets being clogged the rest of the carb was spotless.

I change the mower oil each spring before the first use.

The snowblower, I changed this winter before using it during the 2 big storms we got. I changed it this past weekend, since it will not be needed for an unknown amount of time, I'd rather it sit with clean oil.
