Nice seeing some 10W-30 used. Uncommon these days, but I like the idea of taking advantage of your climate and using the higher winter rating and enjoying that lower Noack. It's 4.1% for AMSOIL Signature Series 10w30. Incredible.

Gorgeous ride. I like the matte wrap (or paint I guess). Also, a 2UR in that thing?? Holy smokes. It must FLY.

There was a time when a 10W30 used in the right conditions made a lot of sense and was a good quality oil . Today , I believe all oil companies have shifted their R&D resources to 5W30 , 0W30, 0W20 , etc. which get all of the best base stocks , additives and research. Mobil 1 , Pennzoil , Valvoline and others are not focused at all on 10W30 oils and use what ever 2nd tier base stocks and additives just enough to meet the spec. and that is all. As a former fan of 10w30 I moved on to 0W30 / 5W30 synthetic oils as being the better quality oils produced by major oil companies today and never looked back .

Yep Phoenix runs like 110 for like 4 straight months, so you're oil choices tend to be in the thicker side, or the more stable side. We've got guys in my car club with BB Chevys, like blown ZZ502s, even some of the SB guys have only ever run 20w50.......theirs been times when my cars sitting outside cold(lol) have starting oil temps of 130F.....yep just sitting outside

Its factory paint.....it does have PPF......its fast, but nothing crazy.....good engine for sure

I agree, luckly Amsoil, HPL, and some other companies didnt cheap out on their 10w30 oils.......

What's the benefit of these Odyssey batteries? @Zataxxx
From what I have read, they are a lot less failures than companies like Clarios. They are also made in the US. That's not to say they don't have failures; they do just fewer from everything I have seen. They use TPPL which allows more plates to occupy the same space offering more power. Whether or not it's needed is up for debate. Interstate makes a similar battery now but their prices are much higher last I checked. If you can get the Odyssey with the 20% off, it brings it down closer to other AGMs; maybe even cheaper. I think it cost me maybe another $80 over a Walmart Everstart Platinum.

Honda Pilot.

About 1k miles on this exchange. OEM oil was exchanged out at just about 600mi. Currently at 1,647mi.

Out: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30
In: Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w-20 (WM was out of the 0w-30 yesterday so went for the spec 0w-20).
Filter remains on & will run until dealer changes oil on “schedule”.

I’m unsure how long the maintenance minder will say the oci should be. Wife does mainly very short trips but we do have a couple hwy & mountain trips on this run of a few hundred miles each. At around 3500mi if it’s not “due” then I’ll do one more vacuum exchange before the dealer. Once I figure out the approximate interval, I’ll just do one in the middle of regular intervals throughout the warranty period.

Boutiques still don't cheap out on base oils in the 10W-xx and 15W-xx varieties, but yes if not a boutique, then I agree you're going to get cheaper base oils.

You should try HPL.......you don't need 0W anything here in PHX......that Ravenol is good oil, but so is Amsoil.

Good for you!! Getting your money’s worth out of your fleet!

I love that your fleet is made up of older vehicles. Can you tell me the mileage of each?
Only two of these were mine. The 10 and 11 Silverados. The 10 got sold and the 11 is going to be sold when I get the heater core in my 04 F-150. The 10 was showing about 160k and the 11 is at 202k. The 11 just had the engine rebuilt with a DOD/AFM delete cam and lifters, thus was the second oil change.

Congrats! Hope this starts solving your oil burning problem.

Thanks!
I'll open separate thread where I'm going to tell specifics for my engine and report any Valvoline Restore and Protect improvement. I have an oil leak too.

This will be more test for Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20 than Valvoline Restore and Protect because I used the first one the last 30-40K miles. :)
