Old oil was not black, but a dark amber, not opaque but not charcoal black, engine is doing better now that i cleaned it out via marvel mystery oil for 3,000 mi, and running decent oil through it, 5,000 mi more and Pennzoil conventional with a Purolator PL20195 goes on it. Vehicle seems smoother on 5W30 than 5W20, as it has 175,000 mi on it. After pennzoil 5W30 is used, may try 10W30 and see if it makes any other differences, if no difference will return to 5W30.
