Napa's oil is made by Valvoline, but Carquest seems to come from either Amalie, Coastal/Irving, or Warren Oil(not Warren Distribution). You can tell which by looking at the dexos license number on the Jug, Amalie will end in 049, Warren in 028, and Coastal/Irving in 060
I read a post here where people here talked about it and it was pretty much decided that Carquest was rebranded Valvoline. I didn't come up with this idea. I already tossed the jug. It's ok either way. I usually go 3 or 4 thousand miles between changes.

About 90% sure it was the factory fill. Drain plug had definitely never been removed and it had an OE MB filter. Customer had been taking it to a chain store and was billed for oil changes and tire rotations twice. I believe the tires had not been rotated either

I’ve always wondered what’s inside these people head who buy an expensive MB truck and take it to a chain store for servicing.

What do you think the issue was? I would assume the oil than filter but I'm no expert.

Subaru filters are FRAM-style filters, but not the ULTRA model. The bypass setting was lower on the Ultra.
I think the oil was just too viscous and shear resistant compared to the ultra light Subaru oil 0W20 designed for this engine.
A Crosstrek is about as far from a "Gas Truck" as you can get - even though Shell's appellation is more marketing than anything.
I would bet when installed, the more rackety 2.5L would accommodate RGT more readily than the 2 litre FB motor.
But in 5W30 flavours, I have stated many times that Valvoline Advanced was the best domestic synthetic Ive tried so far in the past couple decades

I have a fuzzy memory or reading somewhere that MB or other Euro maker is sucking the oil out now instead of draining. I don’t know, maybe I dreamed it.

Possible. My '98 was dealer maintained and the drain plug looked like it had never been removed. The oil had quite a bit of break-in shavings as well as some black dirt/grit for the first two oil changes i did when i got it last year.

I have never used an Ultra nor the RGT. I have used Amsoil filters and Mobil1 AFE in my Legacy. I'm switching over to M1 EP and I bought a 12 pack of Subaru filters. Since I had 2 Subaru's the 18 Legacy and a 19 Impreza I can share oil and filters. My Impreza is the same engine as yours though I don't know if they are tuned the same way.

Mercedes does that. BMW does it too. The point here was that it still had OEM filter, and I agree with that. Don’t believe a chain store would specifically source the MB branded filter, just almost not possible.
