I ask because if you tend to burn more near the end of the run, then it seems counter productive to extend the OCI. But this, of course, is disregarding the inconvience of regular downtime as someone as yourself who is OTR.
Oil consumption in my truck is pretty consistent throughout an OCI. It doesn't seem to increase toward the end of the interval as you suggest. Since I have just been doing the trailer delivery thing for a few months, I need to optimize service intervals. I've never worked my truck as hard as I'm working it now. And starting out with a 37,000 mile OCI was definitely not wise.
Previously, I would put 18,000 miles a year on the truck, with about 6000 of those towing my 2-axle open car hauler. Now I'm running 10,000 miles a month, with 50% of those miles towing bulky travel trailers. I haven't been getting backhauls, so I'm running home with the truck unloaded, so it gets a rest half the time. I was comfortable with 24,000 mile OCI's on RT6 from the oil analyses I had done a couple of years ago, and I even thought I could extend them to 30,000 miles. But now the change in truck duty cycle will force me to reassess the OCI. (Not to mention more frequent trans and diff fluid changes.)
